About Countryside Color
What surprised me most was how pretty the pictures are. I saw the high rating and thought it would be a nice, calm thing for me and my 8-year-old daughter to do together on my Samsung phone. The scenes of forests and animals are gorgeous and feel wholesome, which is a big deal for me. I don’t want my kid seeing weird or flashy stuff. Opening it up, the music is very peaceful. My daughter loved the one with the rabbits. The zoom feature is a must because some of the spaces to color are tiny, like individual flower petals. I like that you can make your own color sets. We made a “sunset” palette with pinks and purples for a sky scene. The actual coloring part works well; you tap an area and it fills in cleanly. The undo button got used a lot when my daughter colored the tree trunk bright blue by accident!
Real-World Use
We used it last Saturday afternoon while waiting for her brother’s soccer practice to end. It was perfect for that. She was focused and quiet, and I enjoyed doing a picture myself. It’s a great shared activity that isn’t a noisy game. But here’s the thing: when she wanted to save her finished picture to my phone’s gallery to show her dad, we hit a snag. The save button didn’t seem to do anything. We tried a few times and got frustrated. The app didn’t explain where the pictures go or if we needed to give it special permission. That moment of confusion really took the relaxing feeling away.

It’s free, and you can’t argue with that. We haven’t paid anything. You get all the pictures and basic tools without spending a dime. There are ads, but they’re just small banners at the bottom of the menu screens. They aren’t video ads that pop up and interrupt you, which I absolutely appreciate. I’ve had too many “free” kids’ apps blast loud commercials. For a free app to keep a child entertained with such lovely art, it’s pretty good. I just wish the free experience was a bit smoother to navigate.
Updates & Support
This is where I got really disappointed. After the saving issue, I looked for a help section. I found a contact form and sent a message explaining the problem on my Galaxy A54. Three days later, I got a reply. It was a generic message asking if I had “checked the app permissions” and to “try restarting the device.” It felt like they didn’t even read my specific question. I tried their suggestions, but it still wasn’t clear. I never heard back after I replied. For a parent, feeling like there’s no real help if something goes wrong makes me hesitant to rely on the app.
Data & Privacy
As a parent, this is my top concern with any app. The Google Play listing says it doesn’t collect personal data like location or contacts for the basic app. You can play without making an account, which is how we use it. That made me feel better about letting my daughter use it. The ads seem to be general, not targeted specifically at us. I didn’t see any pushy prompts for her to sign up for anything. It feels safe from that perspective, which is its biggest strength for family use. I just need it to work reliably.
