Okay, so I downloaded June’s Journey because I needed something to do on my lunch break at work—something that would make my Samsung Galaxy S23 feel useful besides doom-scrolling. I’m not a hardcore gamer or anything, I just wanted a pretty game to kill time. The whole thing is set in the 1920s and you play as this woman named June trying to figure out what happened to her sister. The story is honestly more interesting than I expected. I found myself actually caring about the characters after a few chapters, which I did not see coming. The scenes are hand-drawn and look really nice on my phone, like little paintings. You tap around to find stuff hidden in these old-timey places like mansions and gardens. It’s not rocket science, but it’s relaxing after a long day of spreadsheets.

Features & Highlights

The main thing you do is hunt for hidden objects in these detailed scenes. There’s a timer sometimes, but you can play in “relaxed mode” too, which is what I usually pick because I hate feeling rushed. What really got me was the island decorating part. You unlock these little buildings and trees and fountains to place around June’s estate. It sounds silly but I spent a whole Tuesday night rearranging my flower bushes and windmill because it made me feel like a designer. There are also clubs you can join to chat and compete with other players. My club is called “Cozy Detectives” and we joke around in the chat while saving up for big decorations. Every week there’s a competition called “Sweep the Board” which is basically a timed hidden object race, and it gets intense. But you can totally ignore it if you want.

User Experience

For the most part, the game runs smooth on my Galaxy S23. It loads fast and I never get lag unless my internet is acting up. The tutorial at the beginning walks you through everything, so even my mom could figure it out. My only real complaint is that sometimes you run out of “energy” (the thing you spend to play scenes) and then you have to wait for it to refill, or buy more. That can be annoying when you’re on a roll and just want to find one more clue. Also, the game likes to push notifications a lot—like “Come back! Your island needs you!” which is cute but also makes me roll my eyes sometimes. I play maybe 20 minutes a day and that’s enough to progress without feeling stuck.

Pricing

The game is free to download, and you can play a decent amount without spending any real money. But there are in-app purchases. You can buy diamonds and extra energy and special decoration packs. They start at like $1.99 and go up to like $49.99 for a big bundle. I’ve spent maybe $10 total over the whole year—mostly for a cute cat statue and some extra energy when I was impatient. You don’t have to spend anything, but the game definitely nudges you toward it with pop-ups. If you’re someone who hates paying for mobile games, you can still have fun, just slower. I personally don’t mind dropping a couple bucks here and there for a game I actually play.

Updates & Support

So here’s where I got a little annoyed. I had an issue where my progress didn’t save after a scene—I lost like 10 minutes of work. I contacted their support through the app on a Thursday afternoon. They got back to me two days later with a generic message asking me to restart my phone and clear cache. I did that, nothing changed. Then I replied again and it took another three days to hear back, and they basically said “we’re looking into it.” Never got a real fix. Eventually the problem just stopped happening on its own after an update. So yeah, support feels slow and kind of copy-paste. But the game itself gets regular updates—new scenes, new seasons, special events for holidays. That part is good.

Security & Privacy

I don’t give it much thought honestly, but it does ask for permission to access your storage and stuff. I think it’s mostly for saving screenshots and game data. You sign in with Facebook or Apple ID if you want to save your progress and connect with friends. I just use my email and a password. I’ve never had any weird login attempts or spam from them, which is nice. The privacy policy is the usual long wall of text nobody reads. They probably track your play data for ads, but I’ve never noticed anything creepy. One thing I liked—you can turn off personalized ads in the settings, which I did right away. Feels safer that way.
