The alliance system is the heart of the game though. I joined one called The Iron Brotherhood, and we chat during events. It’s nice to have people help you with building times and sharing tips. The regular events keep things from getting stale. There’s always some challenge going on, like a boss fight or a resource race. The tutorial does a decent job showing you the basics without being annoying. And the controls are simple enough that I could play while waiting for the bus.
What Needs Work
The biggest problem is the pay-to-win feeling. After level 10, the grind becomes real. You need thousands of resources to upgrade anything, and free players get scraps. The energy system limits how many quests you can do per day unless you buy more energy. I ran out on a Friday night and literally just stared at my screen for five minutes deciding if it was worth £4.99. I decided no. The loading times can be long too, especially when you’re jumping between menus. And the in-game ads pop up at the worst moments — like right as you’re about to start a battle. It feels cheap. Also, the chat system is full of spam from people selling accounts or resources. That’s annoying.

The game is free to download. But once you’re hooked, they push packs constantly. I haven’t spent a penny, and honestly, I’m progressing about a third of the speed of people who drop money. If you’re a student on a tight budget like me, you’ll have to accept you won’t be competitive. The game fully expects you to pay eventually.

FunPlus International AG updates the game every couple of weeks with new events or heroes. That’s good. But the updates are large — like 200MB sometimes — which sucks if you’re on limited mobile data. The game asks for access to your storage and internet connection. Nothing too creepy. They also have a privacy policy that’s standard for a free game, meaning they collect data for ads. I didn’t see any option to play offline.
Security & Privacy
The game requires an account, so you need an email or Facebook login. I used a throwaway email because I don’t trust free games with my main account. The permissions are pretty basic: internet access and storage. Nothing like reading your contacts or messages. But there are lots of links to third-party offers and ads that could be dodgy. I accidentally tapped one while scrolling and it redirected me to some sketchy site. I’d recommend using a secondary email and being careful with ad links.
