About Three

My friend Margaret from my gardening club told me I should get the Three app to check my data. She said it was easier than calling them. So, about five weeks ago, I downloaded it onto my Google Pixel. I’m a Three customer, and the app is their free tool for looking after your account. I wanted something straightforward to see my bill and how much internet I have left. After using it for this little while, I can say it does what it’s supposed to, but it doesn’t make things as easy as I’d hoped. It feels a bit like the website just shrunk down to phone size, with some of the same awkwardness.

Core Features

The main things you can do are check your data, see your bill, and pay it. There’s a big circle on the main screen that shows how much of your monthly data you’ve used, which I do like. It’s clear and simple. You can also buy extra data if you’re running low, which I had to do last Tuesday when I was watching videos at my granddaughter’s house. They have terrible Wi-Fi. I managed to add a data boost right from the app, which was helpful. You can turn roaming on and off, which is good for peace of mind if you travel, and track an order if you buy a new phone from them.

Real-World Use

In practice, it’s a mixed bag. Logging in is a hassle every single time. I have to type in my mobile number and a PIN. My phone has a fingerprint reader, but the app doesn’t use it. Once I’m in, that data circle is great. But trying to find anything else, like my bill from two months ago, is a chore. I have to tap through too many menus and it’s not intuitive. The worst moment was last Saturday morning when I went to pay my bill. The app just froze on the confirmation screen. I sat there for a good minute before I had to force it closed and start over. It worked the second time, but it shouldn’t do that.

Pricing & Value

Well, the app itself doesn’t cost anything. You download it for free and use it for free. You’re not getting a discount on your bill for using it, it’s just the way you manage the plan you already pay Three for. So for the price, you can’t complain. It’s definitely worth having on your phone instead of trying to remember your password for their website on a computer. The value is in the convenience, when it decides to work properly.

Updates & Support

I see it update in the Play Store every so often. They don’t seem to change much, just fix little things. I did have to contact support once. I couldn’t figure out why an add-on I removed was still showing on my account. I used the message feature in the app. The person who replied was very polite and sorted it out for me. The only downside was it took them three days to get back to me. I was checking my phone constantly! It was resolved, but I wish it had been quicker.

Data & Privacy

I got it from the proper Play Store on my phone, so I trust it’s the real one. To use it, you have to log in with your Three account details, so I suppose it’s as safe as that account is. The app and Three have their privacy rules about how they use your information for service and offers, which is what you’d expect from a phone company. I haven’t seen any strange ads popping up in the app itself, which is something.

Frequently asked questions
What can I do with the Three app?

You can check your remaining data, view and pay your bill, buy extra data, turn roaming on or off, and track a new phone order. The main screen shows a clear circle of your data usage, which makes it easy to see how much you have left at a glance.

Does the Three app support fingerprint or face login?

No, the app doesn’t use your phone’s fingerprint reader or face unlock. You have to type in your mobile number and a PIN every time you log in, which can feel like a hassle compared to other apps that offer biometric login.

Why does the Three app freeze or crash when I try to pay my bill?

Some users have reported the app freezing on the confirmation screen during payment. If this happens, force close the app and try again—it usually works the second time. This is a known glitch that Three should fix in an update.

How do I find an old bill in the Three app?

Finding a bill from a previous month can be tricky because the menus aren’t very intuitive. You’ll need to tap through several screens, and it’s not as straightforward as it should be. A simpler layout would make this much easier.

How does the Three app compare to the My Vodafone app?

Both apps let you check data and pay bills, but the Three app feels more like a shrunken website and lacks biometric login, which apps like My Vodafone often offer. However, the Three app is free and useful for managing your account, especially if you need to buy data boosts quickly.

✓  Pros
✓ The data usage circle is clear and easy to understand. Adding a data boost is quick when you're in a pinch. The in-app messaging for support got me a helpful answer.
✗  Cons
✗ The app froze completely when I tried to pay my bill. Finding past bills or specific settings is confusing and not straightforward. No option to log in with my fingerprint, which is frustrating.
