First Impression

What surprised me most was that I actually understood what was going on. I saw this app with a near-perfect rating and thought, why not? My grandson watches curling during the Olympics, but it always looked complicated. I opened it up expecting to be lost immediately. Instead, a friendly little tutorial popped up and walked me through sliding my first stone. I was in my living room on a Tuesday morning, and I spent a solid hour just trying to get the rock to stop on the big red circle. The game made it feel possible, not frustrating. The menus were big and clear on my iPhone screen, which is a blessing for my eyes. I didn’t have to squint or guess what anything did.

What It Does Well

It makes you think, but in a good way. You’re not just swiping and hoping. You have to plan where you want the stone to go, then adjust for this “curl” as it slides down the ice. It feels real. I remember last Sunday, I was trying to knock my opponent’s stone out of the scoring zone. I had to aim *behind* it and use just the right amount of power. When I got it right, the sound and the animation were so satisfying. I actually said “Yes!” out loud to an empty room. The game is also wonderfully simple to jump into. No complicated accounts to set up. I can play a quick match against the computer while waiting for my tea to brew. I even made a silly team with my book club’s names, which gave me a good chuckle.

Where It Falls Short

My main gripe is with some of the pop-ups. Not the ads, those are fine. It’s the game’s own messages. Sometimes after a match, two or three different boxes will pop up one after the other—telling me about a new tournament, my score, some bonus points. I just want to see the final result, but I have to keep tapping “OK” to get out of there. It feels cluttered. Also, while the computer player is good, it can be a bit predictable after a while. I started to notice it always tries the same kind of shot when it’s ahead. I wish it mixed up its strategy more to keep me on my toes.

Is It Worth the Price?

It’s free, so that’s an easy yes. You can’t beat the price. The ads are mostly just small banners at the bottom of the screen, and you only see a video ad if you choose to watch one for a little extra in-game money. I’ve never felt pestered. They sell fancy brooms and outfits for your team, but I haven’t bought any and I don’t feel like I’m missing out or losing because of it. Everything you need to enjoy the game fully is right there from the start. For the amount of entertainment I’ve gotten, it’s a steal.

Developer & Support

I had one issue where the game froze on me after I updated my phone’s software. I was worried I’d lose my progress with my book club team. I found the “Contact Support” button buried in the settings menu and sent a message explaining what happened. I didn’t hear back the next day, which had me a little concerned. But two days later, I got a very nice, plain-English email from someone named David. He wasn’t a robot. He asked for my device type and walked me through a fix that worked. It took a few days, but they solved my problem.

Privacy & Safety

This is important to me. The app doesn’t ask for anything odd. When I downloaded it, it didn’t demand access to my contacts or photos. I checked its page on the App Store, and the privacy label says it doesn’t collect data used to track you. The only data it collects is linked to your game profile, like your scores, which makes sense. It feels safe and self-contained. I don’t get the feeling it’s snooping around my phone, which is a big reason I feel comfortable keeping it installed and playing it as much as I do.
