About Netchex

Let’s be clear: this app isn’t for you to download on your own. It’s only for people whose company or school uses Netchex for payroll. My old campus coffee shop job switched to it, so I had to get the app when my old pay portal stopped working. I’ve been using it on my Galaxy S23 for about three days now, mostly to make sure my final paycheck from that job was correct. It’s a purely functional tool—you log in, you check your info, you log out. There’s no fun or flair here, which is fine, but the execution feels a bit rough around the edges for something that handles your money.

Core Features

For a free app, it does the absolute basics. I can see my current pay stubs, which show the hours I worked and all the tax deductions. That’s the main thing I needed. I can also see my year-to-date earnings, which is helpful for when I’m filling out financial aid forms and need a quick number. There’s a section for time-off balances, but since I was just a part-timer, mine always said zero. The features feel very much like a direct port from a desktop website; they didn’t really redesign anything to feel natural on a phone. It’s all there, but it’s not a smooth experience.

Real-World Use

This is where the app shows its age. Just yesterday, I was waiting for my bus after class and tried to log in to screenshot my paystub for my records. The app completely ignored my fingerprint login, which it had set up the day before, and made me type in my long, awkward company URL and my password. Once I got in, finding the actual paystub was a puzzle. I tapped “Payroll,” then “History,” then had to select a date range. For a second, I thought it hadn’t loaded because the screen just went white. I had to close it and try again on the campus Wi-Fi later. It works, but it makes simple tasks feel like a chore.

Pricing & Value

The app costs nothing, which is the best thing about it. I’m a student, so if this had a subscription, I’d delete it immediately and just use the website on my laptop. Since my former employer pays for the Netchex service, I get this mobile access as a free add-on. For that price, I can’t complain too much. It gives me what I need without ads or trying to sell me anything. The value is entirely in the convenience of not having to boot up my computer for a 30-second check. As a free companion tool, it’s acceptable, but it doesn’t feel like a polished product.

Updates & Support

I actually had to contact support because my final paystub was missing a shift. I used the help button in the app on a Monday morning. I didn’t get a real person to reply until Wednesday afternoon, so it took a few days. The wait was annoying, but when they did reply, the agent was helpful and fixed the issue by that evening. The app itself updated right before I downloaded it, according to the Play Store. The update notes just said “stability improvements,” which I guess is why it hasn’t crashed on me yet, even if it is slow.

Data & Privacy

It’s a payroll app, so it has all my sensitive info: my social security number, my bank details for direct deposit, my home address. That makes the occasional login bug and laggy performance a bit worrying. I downloaded it from the official Google Play Store, so I trust that much. It uses standard login security, which is fine. I just wish the app itself felt more solid and reliable, knowing what’s inside it. I don’t use it for anything else, and I’ll probably delete it once I’m sure I don’t need any old info from that job.

Frequently asked questions
What can I do with the Netchex app?

You can view your current pay stubs, check year-to-date earnings, and see your time-off balances. It's designed for basic payroll tasks like reviewing hours worked and tax deductions.

Does the app support biometric login like fingerprint or face recognition?

Yes, it does offer fingerprint login, but it can be unreliable. Some users report that the app occasionally ignores the saved biometric and forces them to type in their company URL and password manually.

Why does the screen go white or take a long time to load pay stubs?

This is a known issue, especially on slower connections. If the app freezes or shows a white screen, try closing it and reopening it on a stable Wi-Fi network—that usually gets the pay stub to load.

How do I find a specific pay stub in the app?

Tap on 'Payroll,' then 'History,' and select a date range. The process isn't very intuitive, so if nothing appears, force-close the app and try again—it sometimes takes a second attempt to display the data.

How does Netchex compare to other payroll apps like ADP or Gusto?

Netchex is free but feels like a direct port from a website, so it's less polished on mobile. Competitors like ADP and Gusto offer smoother navigation and more reliable biometric login, but they may require a company subscription.
