User Experience

The interface is fine, I guess. It’s not the prettiest app I’ve ever used, but it gets the job done. When you open it, you’re smack in the middle of the “For You” feed, which is basically an endless scroll of random videos. Some of them are actually funny or creative, but there’s also a lot of repetitive stuff — like every other video is some kid doing a dance trend I don’t understand. The search function works okay, but I wish it was better at finding specific creators. I tried looking for video editing tutorials and kept getting weird results. Navigation is pretty simple though: swipe up for the next video, tap the bottom icons to go to different sections like Discover or Notifications. My biggest annoyance is the weird amount of notifications the app sends. Even after I turned most of them off, my phone still buzzes with “someone liked your video” or “check out this trending challenge.” I had to dig into the phone settings to fully shut it up. Other than that, the app runs smoothly on my S23. No crashes, no weird bugs. Just a solid, if slightly noisy, experience.

Here’s the best part — Likee is free. Like, completely free. No subscription, no paywall to access basic features. I’ve been using it for over a month and I haven’t spent a single cent. There are some in-app purchases, like buying special effects packs or removing watermarks from your videos, but I haven’t felt the need to buy anything. The watermark is honestly a bit annoying — it’s a small Likee logo in the corner of every video you export. But for personal use or small projects like my cousin’s bakery promos, it doesn’t bother me that much. If you’re super serious about making content without branding, you’d probably need to pay for the premium stuff. I looked into it once and it was like a few bucks for a pack of effects. Not bad, but I’m cheap and the free version works fine. You can also earn virtual coins by being active on the app, which is a nice touch if you’re willing to put in the time.

Updates & Support

Support is kind of a non-issue for me since I never had to contact anyone. The app updates itself pretty regularly — I’ve gotten like three updates since I downloaded it. Each time it just says “bug fixes and performance improvements,” but I noticed the filters loaded a bit faster after the last one. I can’t speak much about customer service because I haven’t needed it. The app store reviews seem mixed though — some people complain about videos not uploading or accounts getting banned. I haven’t had those problems. But if I did run into trouble, I’d probably just Google it before trying to contact support. Most of my questions (like how to remove the watermark) were answered in random YouTube tutorials within seconds.

Security & Privacy

I’ll be honest — I don’t love how much data this app asks for. When you first sign up, it wants access to your contacts, your camera roll, your microphone, even your location. I denied most of those permissions and the app still works fine. But it definitely feels like a data collection machine, like most free social apps. I created a separate account using a throwaway email just to be safe. The privacy policy is probably a novel’s worth of legalese that nobody reads. I wouldn’t recommend posting anything too personal or embarrassing on here, because once it’s uploaded, who knows where it ends up. If privacy is a big concern for you, maybe think twice. For me, it’s worth the trade-off for a free, fun editing tool. Just be smart about what you share.
