First Impression

My gardening club asked me to put together a short video of planting tips for our newsletter. I had a few YouTube videos saved in my phone’s browser, but I couldn’t figure out how to get them from there into our editing app. My son mentioned I might need a “downloader.” I tried two others from the Play Store first, and I gave up within minutes. They were covered in flashing buttons and confusing menus. I almost quit, but then I saw Hub Video Downloader. The icon looked simple, so I tapped it. Opening it up, I saw what looked like a regular internet browser, just like the one on my Samsung phone. That was a huge relief. I didn’t have to learn a whole new system. I typed “YouTube.com” right into the bar at the top, just like I always do. I found my gardening video, and a blue “Download” button popped up right under it. I tapped it, and it just worked. For someone like me who gets lost in fancy tech, that first try was a real win.

What It Does Well

This app doesn’t try to be clever, and that’s its best feature. Everything happens in that one screen. You search for your video, you see the download button, you pick a quality (I just use the one it suggests), and it saves to your phone. I don’t have to copy links or jump between apps. Last Thursday, I wanted to save three different videos about rose pruning. I found the first one, hit download, and while that was saving, I just searched for the next one right in the same window. They all lined up in a list so I could see their progress. The downloads folder is easy to find, too. I went into my phone’s regular “My Files” app, and there was a folder called “HubDownloader.” All my videos were right there, named sensibly, so I could send them to Margery from the club. It handles the job without any fuss, which is exactly what I wanted.

Where It Falls Short

It’s not perfect, of course. The ads are the main annoyance. Sometimes, right after a download finishes, a full-screen ad pops up with a tiny “X” to close it. I’ve accidentally tapped the ad itself a couple of times, which opened up some game in the Play Store. It’s frustrating. Also, while the browser is simple, it feels a bit slow compared to my usual Chrome app. Scrolling through YouTube can be a little jerky on my Galaxy S23. I tried to download a video from a news website my friend sent me, and the app didn’t recognize it. No blue button appeared. It seems to only work on the big sites like YouTube. For a free app, I can live with it, but I do wish it was a bit smarter about where it works.

Is It Worth the Price?

Well, you can’t argue with free. For the price, it’s a solid little tool that does one job. I needed to download videos for a specific purpose, and it let me do that without paying a cent or dealing with a complicated subscription. The trade-off for the price is the ads. You have to be patient with them. If you just need to grab a video once in a while for personal use, it’s perfectly fine. If I had to download things every single day, the ads might push me to look for a paid option. But for my gardening club project and the occasional funny cat video I want to save, it’s good enough.

Developer & Support

I actually had to contact support once. I downloaded a video and it saved without any sound. I thought I’d done something wrong. I found the “Contact Us” section in the app’s menu and sent a message explaining the problem. I didn’t hear back for four days, and I’d almost forgotten about it. Then, I got an email from someone at DOSA Apps. They were polite and asked for a link to the video I’d tried. They explained that sometimes videos have the sound on a separate track and the app might miss it. They said they’d note it for the developers. A week later, an app update popped up on my phone. It didn’t specifically mention my issue, but it was nice to see they are updating things. They took the time to answer, which is more than I expected for a free product.

Privacy & Safety

This was a big worry for me. I don’t like apps that snoop. As far as I can tell, this one only sees what I do inside its own browser window. It doesn’t ask for permission to my photos or contacts. All the downloaded videos go into their own folder on my phone, and I haven’t noticed any strange new files or apps appearing. I read the privacy policy, and it’s mostly legal language, but it says they collect basic data about app crashes and feature use to make improvements. That seems fair. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now, and I haven’t gotten any weird spam or noticed my battery draining faster. It feels safe for what I need it to do.

Frequently asked questions
How do I download a video using Hub Video Downloader?

Just open the app, type the video website like YouTube into the built-in browser bar, and find your video. A blue 'Download' button will appear right under it—tap that, choose your preferred quality, and the video will save to your phone.

Where do my downloaded videos get saved on my phone?

All your videos go into a folder called 'HubDownloader' inside your phone's regular 'My Files' app. They keep their original names, so you can easily find and share them without digging through confusing folders.

Why does Hub Video Downloader show ads after a download finishes?

The free version displays occasional ads, especially right after a download completes. This is how the app stays free to use. You can simply close the ad or wait a few seconds—it won't interrupt your downloads or delete any files.

Can I download multiple videos at the same time without losing track?

Yes, you can search for the next video while another one is still saving. All your active downloads appear in a list showing their progress, so you can easily keep track of everything without jumping between screens.

How does Hub Video Downloader compare to other downloader apps like VidMate or TubeMate?

Hub Video Downloader is much simpler and less cluttered than many competitors. Instead of flashing buttons and confusing menus, it works like a regular browser—you just search, tap download, and it saves directly to your phone without needing to copy links or switch apps.
