First Impression

I downloaded this app in a panic last March. My old “gratitude reminder” app had just slapped a subscription on me, and I wasn’t paying $5 a month to be told to say thanks. I was fully expecting Fossify Thank You to be another bare-bones free app that would lock basic features behind a paywall. The interface was clean, no ads, which was a good sign. Where It Falls Short

For a paid app, even a cheap one, there are a few rough edges. The gift suggestion feature feels like an afterthought. I entered that my sister likes hiking and books, and it just gave me a generic list like “personalized mug” or “book.” Not exactly groundbreaking. I ended up ignoring it. Also, while the templates are fine, I wish there was a way to create and save my own. I have a specific, more casual style I like to use for close friends, and having to manually recreate it each time is a minor hassle. It’s not a dealbreaker, but for an app focused on personal touches, that lack of customization is a bit ironic.

Is It Worth the Price?

Absolutely, and this is coming from someone who hates spending money on apps. The $3.49 is a one-time fee. I’ve had it for over a year now with zero other asks. Compare that to the price of a single nice card and stamp, which is easily more than that. I’ve sent probably two dozen notes through it in that time, so it’s down to pennies per use. The value isn’t in flashy features; it’s in the app reliably doing the one thing I need it to do—help me be more thoughtful without a monthly bill. It paid for itself the first time I avoided a late thank-you.

I haven’t had to contact support myself because nothing’s broken, but I always check the Play Store reviews before buying. The Fossify apps have a solid reputation. People mention the developer actually responds to bug reports and feedback. I did get one update back in the fall that fixed a small glitch where reminder notifications were sometimes silent. Seeing active maintenance on a paid app is a big green flag for me. It shows they’re not just taking the money and running, which happens way too often.

Privacy & Safety

This was a major selling point for me. Fossify apps are open-source. I’m not a coder, but I know that means other people can look at the code and verify it’s not doing anything shady with my data. All my notes, my journal entries, my contacts list for reminders—it all stays on my phone. The app doesn’t even ask for internet permission, which is huge. I’m not sending my personal thank-yous through some company’s server where they could be data-mined. The peace of mind knowing my gratitude journal is truly private makes the app feel more genuine to use.
