About Duck Survival

My friend Barbara told me about this game over our weekly bridge game. She said it was cute and easy to pick up, so I gave it a try on my new iPhone. I’m not one for complicated games with a hundred buttons, so the idea of just helping a duck get around sounded nice. It’s exactly that. You’re a duck, and you have to hop from one spot to the next without falling in the water or getting caught by a fox. It sounds silly, but it’s genuinely enjoyable. After two weeks, I find myself opening it most days, usually while waiting for my husband to finish getting ready to go out. It’s a pleasant little distraction.

Features & Highlights

The best part, honestly, is dressing up the duck. You earn little gold coins as you play, and you can buy hats and scarves and even little bow ties. My duck currently has a nice top hat and a monocle. It makes me smile every time I see him waddle onto the screen. There are a ton of levels, which is good because I was worried I’d finish it too quickly. They start easy but get trickier. I got stuck on a level last Tuesday with some bouncing mushrooms for a good twenty minutes. There’s also a special level that changes every day, which is a nice little challenge with my morning tea. I tried the two-player mode with my grandson when he visited, and we had a good laugh trying to bump each other off the logs.

User Experience

For someone like me who gets flustered by confusing screens, this app is great. You just tap to jump and hold your finger down to make the duck glide a bit. That’s it. The menus are big and clear, so I never have to squint or guess what a button does. The game looks bright and cheerful, which I appreciate. My only real complaint is that sometimes my finger doesn’t seem to register the tap perfectly, and my duck just stands there and gets eaten by a turtle. It’s probably just my old fingers, but it can be frustrating when I know I tapped the screen. The little “quack” sound he makes when you put a new hat on him never gets old, though.

Pricing

It’s free, which is always a good start. You can play all the levels without paying a cent. They show ads sometimes, but only after you finish a level or if you choose to watch one to get a few extra coins. It’s not constant, and they don’t pop up in the middle of your game. I liked the game enough that I paid the three dollars to turn the ads off completely. It was a simple one-time purchase, right there in the app, and it worked immediately. I’m glad they didn’t try to trick me into some monthly subscription. I’ve never felt like I needed to buy coins to progress; you earn plenty just by playing.

Updates & Support

I had a small issue where my game progress didn’t show up after I updated my phone’s software. I was worried I’d lost my fancy duck and all my levels. I found an email address for support and sent them a message. They wrote back after a couple of days—not instantly, but I didn’t expect it to be—and the person who replied, Sam, was very helpful. They walked me through how to sign in to the cloud save feature step-by-step, and it fixed my problem. I’ve also noticed the game has gotten a few updates since I downloaded it, adding more levels, which is a nice surprise for a free game.

Security & Privacy

I got the app straight from the App Store on my phone, so I feel safe about that. I didn’t have to create an account or give any personal information to start playing, which I prefer. The only thing I gave was my email address when I contacted support, and that was my choice. The app doesn’t ask for any strange permissions on my phone, which is a relief. I just want to play a game, not give it access to my photos or contacts.

Frequently asked questions
How do I unlock and use the duck costumes and accessories?

You earn gold coins by completing levels, and then you can spend them in the in-game shop to buy hats, scarves, bow ties, and more. Just tap the wardrobe icon on the main menu to dress up your duck however you like.

Is there a daily challenge or special level that changes?

Yes, there is a special level that refreshes every day, giving you a fresh puzzle to solve. It’s a great way to get a quick challenge, especially if you enjoy playing with your morning coffee or tea.

My duck sometimes doesn’t jump when I tap the screen. How can I fix this?

This can happen if your taps are too light or if there’s a bit of moisture or screen protector residue interfering. Try tapping a little more firmly or cleaning your screen, and make sure you’re not accidentally swiping instead of tapping.

I’m stuck on a level with bouncing mushrooms. Any tips to get past it?

Timing is key—wait for the mushrooms to compress before you jump, and hold your finger down to glide a bit if you need extra distance. If you keep failing, take a short break; coming back with fresh eyes often helps.

How does Duck Survival compare to other simple hopping games like Crossy Road?

Unlike Crossy Road’s endless forward hopping, Duck Survival has a set number of levels with a clear goal on each one, plus a daily challenge. It also focuses more on dressing up your duck and adds a fun two-player mode, making it feel more relaxed and customizable.
