My Experience with DeepSeek – AI Assistant

I downloaded this app out of pure curiosity last Tuesday night while scrolling through some tech forums. The OnePlus 11 handled it fine, no crashes or lag. But honestly, my first impression was mixed. The app asked for access to my contacts and storage right away, which immediately set off alarm bells. Why does an AI chatbot need my contacts? That felt unnecessary. I spent the first evening poking through the privacy policy, and it mentions data sharing with third parties for “service improvement.” Vague wording like that makes me suspicious. I tried asking it a few random questions—nothing too personal, just stuff about local weather and a recipe for lentil soup. The answers were decent, fairly fast, and the tone felt natural enough. But I kept wondering what data was being logged in the background. I contacted support on Wednesday about the contact permission, and they replied on Saturday morning—friendly and actually helpful, explaining that it’s optional and tied to a feature I’d never use anyway. Still, three days for a response is slow. By day three, I deleted it. Not because it didn’t work, but because I couldn’t shake the feeling that my questions were being stored somewhere I couldn’t control.

Features Worth Noting

The app itself runs smoothly on my phone, no complaints there. The response speed is pretty quick—answers pop up in a second or two. It kept context across questions, which is handy if you’re having a longer conversation. The voice input worked well, though I only tested it once. I also liked that you can adjust the tone of responses from casual to more formal. That’s a nice touch for different situations. The interface is clean, not cluttered with ads or pop-ups. I’ll give them that. But honestly, none of this blew me away. Other free AI assistants do the same thing, and some don’t ask for half your phone’s permissions.

What Needs Work

The privacy stuff is my biggest gripe. Contact access should never be a default request for a chatbot. Also, there’s no clear way to delete your conversation history from their servers. The app says you can clear local data, but that doesn’t erase what they’ve stored. That’s sketchy. The support response time is another issue—waiting several days for a basic question isn’t great when you’re already uneasy. Oh, and the app doesn’t work offline at all, which is annoying if you’re in a spotty signal area.

Pricing

It’s free, so you’re paying with your data instead of money. That’s the trade-off. There are no subscription plans or hidden costs, which is fair for a basic AI assistant. But I’d rather pay a few bucks a month for something that respects my privacy than use a free tool that collects everything. Just my take.

Developer Notes

The developer is listed as Roblox Corporation, which made me blink. That seems odd for an AI assistant. I checked the app store page again, and it’s definitely Roblox listed. Either it’s a mistake or they’ve expanded into weird territory. Either way, the app doesn’t feel tied to Roblox at all—no avatar stuff or game integration. It’s just a straightforward chatbot. If the developer info is accurate, I’d question why a game company is making an AI assistant. Not a dealbreaker, but strange.

Security & Privacy

Here’s where I get real. I read the privacy policy carefully. It says they collect device info, usage data, and conversation logs. They share data with “affiliates and service providers.” No opt-out for analytics tracking. The permissions list includes contacts, storage, and microphone. I disabled contacts and it still worked, but the fact that it asks at all tells me their default approach is “ask for everything” rather than “ask for what’s needed.” There’s no mention of end-to-end encryption for conversations. If you care about privacy, this app will make you uncomfortable. I uninstalled it because no chatbot is worth handing over my address book.
