First Impression

I saw this app with a 4.2 rating on the Play Store last Tuesday and figured I’d give it a shot. My first thought was, “Wow, this is actually clean.” No sign-up wall, no demand for my email right away. I could just start adding my cards. The dashboard looked exactly like the screenshots—a relief after so many apps that don’t. But then I got the Android system prompt asking for permission to “run at startup” and “have full network access.” My guard went up immediately. Why does a card tracker that doesn’t even connect to my bank need to run as soon as I turn on my phone? That was my first red flag.

What It Does Well

Once I got past the permissions scare, the core function is solid. I have two personal cards and a store card, and seeing all their balances, limits, and due dates on one screen is genuinely helpful. I was at Target on Saturday, about to check out, and I pulled out my phone. A quick glance told me which card had the most available credit and which one had a payment due soonest. That’s the kind of simple, practical info I wanted. Manually entering transactions is a bit old-school, but it does make you think twice before adding a charge. The rewards tracker is a nice touch; I tagged my Amazon card for online shopping and can see my points pile up.

Where It Falls Short

My main issue is with support and a few clunky bits. I tried to set a custom alert for when a balance hit a certain amount. The toggle just didn’t work—it would slide back off. I emailed support through the app on Wednesday morning. By Friday afternoon, all I got back was a generic “Thanks for your feedback, our team is looking into it” with no ticket number or follow-up. It felt like my message vanished into a void. Also, while the ads are mostly quiet banners, I got a video ad that played sound once when I was adding a transaction. Not cool.

Is It Worth the Price?

It’s free, so on a pure cost basis, yes. You get a functional card dashboard without paying a dime. The banner ads are a fair trade for that. But “price” isn’t just money. For someone like me, the cost is also the data you might be giving up and the uncertainty about getting help if something breaks. For a quick, manual overview of your cards, it’s useful. I wouldn’t trust it as my financial command center, though.

Developer & Support

The developer is listed as TheSimplest.Net, which checks out for the app’s design. But the support experience was the opposite of simple. That vague, slow response to my bug report left me feeling totally unsupported. If this were a paid app, I’d be furious. For a free one, it just makes me cautious. I don’t feel confident that a bigger problem would get fixed in a reasonable time. It makes the whole app feel a bit fragile.

Privacy & Safety

This is my biggest hang-up. I read the privacy policy. It says they collect “device information” and “usage data” for analytics and to serve ads. The policy is vague on what specific device info they take. Combined with those broad permissions my Pixel 7 asked for, it paints a picture of an app that’s probably tracking more than just the card details I type in. They don’t ask for bank logins, which is good, but I’m not convinced my usage patterns aren’t being packaged up and sold. I only entered fake card numbers and limits during my testing because of this. I can’t fully trust it with real data.

Frequently asked questions
Can I track multiple credit cards and see their balances and due dates in one place?

Yes, you can add multiple personal and store cards to the dashboard, which shows all their balances, credit limits, and payment due dates on a single screen. This makes it easy to check which card has the most available credit or which payment is coming up soonest.

Does the app have a rewards tracker for different cards?

Yes, Credit Card Manager includes a rewards tracker that lets you tag specific cards for different spending categories, like an Amazon card for online shopping. You can then see your points accumulate as you manually add transactions.

Why does the app ask for permission to 'run at startup' and 'have full network access'?

Those permissions are a common concern because the app doesn't connect to your bank, yet it wants to launch when your phone starts and access the internet. It's likely for background ad updates or analytics, but the request feels unnecessary for a manual tracker and may be a privacy red flag.

I tried to set a custom balance alert, but the toggle won't stay on. How can I fix this?

This is a known bug where the alert toggle slides back off after you try to enable it. Unfortunately, support hasn't provided a fix yet, and their response was a generic acknowledgment with no ticket number. For now, you may need to rely on manual checks or wait for an app update.

How does Credit Card Manager compare to Mint or other budgeting apps?

Unlike Mint, which automatically syncs with your bank accounts and categorizes transactions, Credit Card Manager requires you to manually enter every charge. It's simpler and more private since it doesn't connect to your bank, but you lose the convenience of automatic updates and comprehensive budgeting tools.
