The game is basically a match-three puzzle brawler where you collect WWE superstars and fight other players or the computer. It’s way more strategic than I expected—you have to line up colored gems to power up your wrestlers’ special moves. The graphics are sharp, and the character models actually look like the real people. My only complaint is that it’s not something I’d let Leo play unsupervised for long, because the chat and faction stuff can get a little rowdy.

The main feature is collecting and leveling up wrestlers. You start with a few basic guys like Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins, but you can unlock legends like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Each character has unique moves and a “finisher” that triggers when you match enough of their color. There’s a single-player campaign with storylines, which is handy when you’re waiting at the dentist’s office. Then there’s the PvP mode where you fight real people, but that’s where I draw the line for my kid—some opponents are way too high-level. You can also join factions, which are like clubs where you chat and compete in group events. I joined one called “The Elbow Droppers” just to see what it’s like, and honestly, the chat moves fast and people use language I wouldn’t want Leo seeing. The game has special events tied to real WWE pay-per-views like WrestleMania. Last week they had a themed tour for SummerSlam. It keeps things fresh, but it also means you feel pressured to log in every day or miss out on limited rewards.

User Experience

On my Samsung Galaxy A54, the game runs smooth. It didn’t crash once during that four-hour drive. The menus are a bit cluttered, though—there are buttons everywhere, and it’s easy to accidentally spend in-game currency. I did that twice, buying a loot crate when I meant to just look at it. The tutorial is okay, but it throws a lot at you all at once. I had to watch a YouTube video to understand how to tag-team during a match. One thing I really like is that you can play in short bursts. A single match takes maybe two or three minutes, so it’s perfect for when you’re waiting for coffee to brew or sitting in the school pickup line. The loading screens are a little long sometimes, especially when the game syncs with the server. And you absolutely need a stable internet connection—if your signal drops mid-match, you lose and it counts as a loss. That happened to me at the grocery store parking lot last Tuesday.

Pricing

WWE Champions is free to download, but it’s heavy on the in-app purchases. There are pop-ups for special offers pretty much every time you open the game. You can buy in-game cash called “cash” (confusing, I know) and also “keys” for loot crates. Some people spend real money on character packs that cost $20 or more. I personally haven’t spent a dime, and I’ve still made decent progress. But I can see how a kid could rack up a big bill if they have access to a credit card. The game gives you free currency slowly through daily logins and events, but it’s designed to tempt you into spending. I’d recommend setting up parental controls if your child plays. For me as an adult, it’s fine—I just ignore the pop-ups and grind it out.

Updates & Support

I haven’t needed to contact support, so I can’t speak to that directly. But I’ve read the app store reviews, and they’re mixed. Some people complain about bugs after updates, like the game freezing during PvP battles. Others say customer service takes days to respond. I’ve seen the app update maybe three times in the month I’ve had it. The updates are usually for new events or characters, and they’re forced—you can’t play the old version. That’s a bit annoying when you’re on limited data, but the downloads are pretty small. The developers definitely push new content hard, which keeps the game alive but also makes it feel like a never-ending treadmill.

Security & Privacy

This is the part that worries me as a parent. The app asks for permission to access your photos, media, and files on Android. I declined that, and it still works fine. You also have to create an account with an email, or you can log in with Facebook or Google. I used my email because I don’t want the app posting to my social media. There’s a chat feature in factions, and I’ve seen some pretty salty language. The terms of service say you have to be 13 or older. I would not let my son play this without me sitting next to him. The data collection is typical for a free game—they track your playtime and maybe sell that info. Overall, it’s fine for me as an adult, but I wouldn’t call it kid-friendly without supervision.
