I’m a student so I’m pretty broke most of the time. I saw this app had a 4.4 rating in the Play Store and figured I’d give it a shot for making a quick project for my media class. I’ve been using it for about two weeks on my OnePlus 11. What got me was that I could actually finish a short video for a group presentation without wanting to throw my phone. I edited a 3-minute clip last Tuesday night in my dorm room—added background music, trimmed out some awkward pauses, and threw in a filter so it didn’t look like we filmed it in a basement. The interface is mostly straightforward, though I did have to hunt for where to adjust the volume levels. It handled my 4K footage from my phone fine, no crashing or weird lag. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much for a free app.

Features Worth Noting

The trimming and merging tools are super easy to use. I just drag the edges of the clip on the timeline and done. The music library has a decent selection of free tracks, but you do have to watch an ad to download some of them, which is annoying but bearable. I also messed around with the speed control—slowed down a clip of my friend tripping over a backpack and it looked surprisingly clean. The filters are okay, nothing mind-blowing, but they do the job when you want to hide bad lighting. One thing I really appreciated is that it lets you export in 1080p without forcing you to pay. For a college student making dumb videos for assignments and social media, that’s a lifesaver. The built-in camera is there too but I don’t use it, my phone’s camera is good enough.

What Needs Work

Let’s be real—the free version is full of ads. Like, after every export there’s a 15-second video ad. And if you want to remove the watermark? That costs money. For a $0 budget student that stinks. The text options are also pretty basic. I wanted to put a fancy title card over a clip and the fonts looked like they haven’t been updated since 2016. Also, the app tried to get me to subscribe to something called VivaVideo Pro like three times in one session. That’s a little pushy. And the help section is just a FAQ that tells you to upgrade. Not super helpful if you’re stuck.

Pricing

So the app is free to download. You can do basic edits without paying a dime. But if you want to remove the watermark, export 4K, or use the premium effects and stickers, you’re looking at a subscription. I think it’s like $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year. There’s also a one-time purchase option but it’s not super obvious where that is. For me personally, I’m not paying that—I’d rather deal with the watermark or use a desktop software for free. I can see why someone making content regularly might buy it, but for a student just trying to pass a group project, it’s too much.

Developer Notes

The app gets updated fairly often. In the two weeks I’ve had it, there was one update that added some new sticker packs and fixed a bug where the audio would desync. That’s good to see. But the developer really wants you to sign up for their subscription—every time you open a pro feature it shows a big ad for the plan. The app store reviews mention the same thing, so it’s clearly intentional. They also have a “VIP Membership” that gives you all the effects and no watermark. If you’re a heavy user it might be worth it, but I haven’t bitten the bullet yet.

Security & Privacy

I checked the permissions before installing. It asks for access to your photos, media, and files, which makes sense for a video editor. It also requests microphone access, I think for recording voiceovers. I haven’t seen any weird behavior like my data being sent somewhere suspicious. But I did read a few reviews saying the app sometimes shares analytics data with third parties, which is pretty standard for free apps. I make sure to deny any location permissions and I don’t log in with my Google account or Facebook. That’s just me being cautious. If you’re worried, you can use it without creating an account, which I do.
