My Experience with USB Audio Player PRO

I’m not what you’d call a tech person. I retired from teaching a few years back and mostly use my phone for calls, texting the grandkids, and listening to music while I potter around the garden. Sometimes it gets it right, sometimes not, but I can add it manually if I care enough. The gapless playback works perfectly — when a live album has songs that flow into each other, there’s no awkward silence between tracks. That matters to me. I also like that I can sort my music by folder instead of by album name, because my old computer had a certain folder structure and I’m too set in my ways to change it now.

What Needs Work

I’ll be honest — the app’s interface can be overwhelming for someone like me. There are so many settings and menus that it took me weeks to stop accidentally poking into things I didn’t understand. The font is a bit small for my aging eyes, too. I wish there was a “simple mode” that just showed play, pause, next, and volume. The file browser is functional but not pretty. I also noticed that sometimes when I connect my phone to my car’s USB port, the app doesn’t automatically launch the way it should. I have to open it manually and then switch the audio source. That’s a bit annoying when I’m in a hurry. And while the app is stable in general, I did have one weird issue last spring where it stopped seeing my external SD card for a weekend. It fixed itself after a reboot, but it made me nervous. Overall, my main frustration is the learning curve. For a retiree who just wants to press play and hear good music, there’s too much going on. I don’t need an equalizer with ten sliders or network streaming options I’ll never use. I’d pay the same price for a version that stripped out half the features and just focused on making the basics perfect.

Seven dollars and ninety-nine cents felt like a lot for an app back when I bought it. I remember thinking “that’s almost a lunch out.” But now, after over a year of daily use, I’d say it was worth every penny. The app doesn’t have any in-app purchases or subscriptions, which I really appreciate. I hate when apps nickle-and-dime you. You buy it once and it’s yours. The updates have been free, too. I’ve seen maybe three or four updates in the year I’ve owned it, and each one seemed to fix something or make it run smoother. I can’t complain about the price. For what it does with my DAC and high-res files, it’s probably underpriced compared to some of the other music apps out there that charge monthly. But I still think the developer could offer a basic version for less money, for people who don’t need the professional stuff.

Developer Notes

I can’t say I’ve had to contact support, because the app has just worked for me. But I have read the app store reviews out of curiosity. People seem to get responses from the developer pretty quickly when they have issues. That’s a good sign. The developer seems active — they keep the app updated and the changelogs mention fixing bugs I never even noticed. I like that they don’t abandon their product. Some apps you buy and then the developer forgets about them. Not this one. The app has a website with some documentation, but I’ll admit I found it a bit too technical for my needs. I’d rather they had a simple FAQ written in plain English for people like me. But they’re clearly building this for audiophiles who know what “bit-perfect” and “DRC” mean. That’s fine. I just wish they’d remember that some of their customers are just regular folks who want their music to sound nice.

Security & Privacy

This app didn’t ask for any crazy permissions when I installed it. It wants access to my storage, which makes sense because my music is on my phone and SD card. It also asked for USB permission, which again makes sense for the DAC. No location access, no contacts, no weird background activity. That put my mind at ease because I’m cautious about what apps get access to. I ran a scan with my phone’s built-in security and it came back clean. The app doesn’t seem to phone home or show me ads, which I was worried about given the price. It just sits there and plays music. I haven’t noticed any battery drain issues either, which can happen with some audio apps. For a retired fella who doesn’t want his personal data floating around, this app feels safe. No complaints there at all.
