If you’re into reality shows like Shark Tank or sports like the WWE, this is where they live. Just know that not everything is free, and some stuff will taunt you with a little lock icon unless you pay up.

The big selling point for me is live sports streaming. You can watch live sports with ads, but some big matches are locked behind the subscription. I started with the free version, but after missing a key World Cup game because it was premium-only, I caved and got the mobile-only plan. It’s around ₹299 for 3 months or ₹499 for a year, which is cheaper than a couple of chai runs from the campus canteen. There’s also a premium plan at ₹999 per year that unlocks 4K streaming and no ads across all devices, but I can’t afford that right now. The mobile plan works perfectly on my A54 and lets me stream on one phone. For a price-sensitive guy, I think it’s fair – you get way more than what Netflix or Prime ask for. But I wish they were clearer about what’s free and what’s paid. Sometimes I click on a show thinking it’s free, only to get hit with a subscription prompt. That’s frustrating.

Updates & Support

I tried contacting their support once because the app kept crashing after a recent update. I sent an email and got an automated reply saying they’d get back to me within 48 hours. Four days later, I got a generic response asking me to clear the cache. I did that, but the issue persisted. I replied again, and this time they asked for a screen recording. I sent one, waited another 72 hours, and finally got a link to a help page that basically said the same thing. Honestly, it felt like talking to a wall. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the app, which actually fixed it. So my advice? Don’t expect much from customer support. Updates come regularly – usually every couple of months – and they add new content and fix bugs sometimes. But I’ve noticed that some updates break features before they fix them. For example, after one update, my offline downloads wouldn’t play. That was fixed in the next update, but it was annoying in between.

Security & Privacy

This isn’t something I usually think about, but since the app needs access to your storage for downloads and your location for regional content, it’s worth mentioning. The app asks for permission to read your device’s storage and access your photos/media. I gave it because downloading stuff offline requires it, but I’m a little uneasy about how much data they might collect. I checked their privacy policy once – it’s long and boring, but they do say they collect user behavior data for personalization. They also share data with third-party advertisers, which explains why I get ads for things I searched on Google. SonyLIV doesn’t have a great reputation for data breaches as far as I know, but I’m cautious. I make sure to log out if I use it on a shared device, and I don’t save my payment details in the app. For a streaming app, it feels standard – not great, not terrible. If you’re really paranoid, just use the free version and don’t link your real email.
