First Impression

I saw this app with a crazy high 4.9 rating and figured I’d give it a shot. My first thought was, “Okay, this looks nice.” The cards moved smoothly on my iPhone 14, and the default setup was clean. I played a few standard games and it felt like a proper, no-fuss Solitaire experience. I was immediately suspicious, though. A rating that high on a free game usually means either it’s truly amazing or there’s some catch. I decided to test every single free feature before even thinking about spending a dime, which is my usual routine.

What It Does Well

The daily challenge is the best part, hands down. Every morning with my coffee, I get a new puzzle. It’s the same game, but the deck is set up in a tricky way that makes you think. Last Tuesday, I was stuck for ten minutes before I saw the winning move, and it felt like a real win. The game itself is polished. Dragging cards feels right, and the little “snap” when you complete a foundation pile is weirdly satisfying. I also like that you can change the card backs and table color for free. I switched to a simple wood grain table, and it made the whole thing feel less like a cheap app and more like a real game.

Where It Falls Short

My big issue is with the hints. You get a few free ones, but then you have to watch an ad. That’s fair, I guess. The problem is the ads are for other puzzle games that look almost identical to this one, which just reminds me I could be playing something else. The bigger letdown was trying to get help. I had a weird glitch where my daily challenge score didn’t post to the leaderboard. I used the contact form in the app. The reply I got two days later was a generic “try restarting the app” message that didn’t address my specific problem. It left me feeling like they don’t really have a support team, just a copy-paste bot.

Is It Worth the Price?

As a free game, it’s good. You can play the classic game and the daily puzzle forever without paying. The ads for hints are optional, and you can ignore them if you’re stubborn like me. They offer a one-time purchase to remove ads, which I considered. But after my support experience, I’m hesitant to give them any money. Why buy the “premium” experience if the basic support is lacking? For killing ten minutes on the bus, it’s perfectly fine. Just don’t expect a premium service for your zero dollars.

Developer & Support

Fugo Games updates the app, I’ll give them that. I got an update notification last week for “bug fixes and improvements.” So they’re not abandoning it. But that support ticket really colored my view. A slow, vague response tells me they’re more focused on getting the app out there than helping the people who use it. If you never need help, you’ll never know. But if you run into a problem, don’t hold your breath for a useful solution. It makes the whole operation feel a bit impersonal.

Privacy & Safety

I checked their privacy policy before playing more than a few games. It’s pretty standard stuff for a free app. They collect some data for ads and to see how the game is played. They say they don’t sell your personal info, but they do use it for targeted advertising. I didn’t link any social accounts or use my real name (I’m “BusCardShark” on the leaderboard), so I feel okay about it. It’s about as safe as any other free mobile game, which means be mindful but you’re probably not in danger.

Frequently asked questions
What features are available for free in Solitaire Sunday?

You can play the standard Solitaire game and the daily challenge for free. You can also customize your card backs and table color without paying a cent.

How do the daily challenges work in Solitaire Sunday?

Each day you get a new puzzle with a preset deck that requires strategic thinking to solve. It's a fresh challenge every morning, and completing it feels rewarding, especially when you find the winning move after a tough puzzle.

Why aren't my daily challenge scores posting to the leaderboard?

This can happen due to a temporary glitch. Try restarting the app and checking your internet connection. If the problem persists, use the in-app contact form, but note that support replies may be generic and take a couple of days.

How can I get more hints in Solitaire Sunday without watching ads?

You start with a few free hints each day. Once you run out, the only way to get more is by watching an ad for another hint. There is no option to purchase hints directly without ads.

How does Solitaire Sunday compare to other free solitaire apps like Solitaire by MobilityWare?

Solitaire Sunday offers a cleaner, more polished look with smoother animations and a satisfying snap sound. Its daily challenges are more creative and require more thought than the basic puzzles in many competitors, but it lacks the robust customer support that some other apps provide.

✓  Pros
✓ The daily challenge puzzles are genuinely clever and addictive.
✓ Card physics and animations are smooth and feel great on a good phone.
✓ Several nice visual themes are available for free.
✓ Core Solitaire game is completely free with no forced paywalls.
✗  Cons
✗ Support is slow and unhelpful if you have an issue.
✗ Ads push you towards nearly identical competing games.
✗ Leaderboard sync can be buggy, as I experienced.
