My Experience with Slendrina: The Cellar 2

Last Tuesday evening, my grandson Michael was over and showed me this game on his phone. He said, “Grandpa, I bet you’ll jump!” and handed me his phone. Well, I downloaded it on my own iPhone later that night, just to see. Let me tell you, I wasn’t expecting much from a free game. But an hour later, I was sitting in my recliner with all the lights on, heart pounding because I’d just rounded a corner and that pale girl was right in my face. I actually dropped my phone on the rug! It’s not a complicated game, and that’s what I like. You’re just down in a cellar, looking for keys and a crossbow to defend yourself while this creepy thing stalks you. For someone like me who gets lost in menus, the fact that I could just open it and start playing was perfect. I’ve gone back to it a few times since, usually when I want a little thrill without having to learn a whole new system.

Features Worth Noting

The sounds in this game are what really get you. I played with my old headphones on, and you can hear her giggling and her feet scraping on the stone floors. Sometimes she sounds close, sometimes far away, and it keeps you on edge the whole time. The graphics are dark and murky, which is probably the point, but you can make out enough to know where you’re going. Your little flashlight only lights up a small circle in front of you, so you’re always peering into the darkness. The controls are straightforward. A little joystick on the screen moves you, and there are clear buttons to turn your flashlight on and off or to interact with things like keys and doors. I didn’t have to fiddle with any complicated settings. It just works. The best part is the sheer panic when you hear her and you’re frantically trying to remember which way you came from to get away.

What Needs Work

I do have a couple of gripes. After a while, all those brick hallways start to look the same. More than once I found myself going in circles, which is frustrating, not scary. A little map, even a very simple one, would be a huge help for players like me who don’t have the best sense of direction in video games. Also, the game shows you a short video advertisement every time you die. I understand it’s free, so they have to make money somehow, and you can skip them after a few seconds. But when you’re trying to get back into the game after a scare, having to wait through an ad for laundry soap breaks the mood completely.

Pricing

You can’t beat the price. It’s free. There are no sneaky charges to unlock parts of the game or to get a better weapon. The only thing you “pay” with is your time watching those video ads after you fail. Sometimes after a death, it will ask if you want to watch an ad for an extra life to continue right where you were. I’ve done that a few times when I was on a good run, and it felt like a fair trade. For a no-cost game, it gives you a complete, scary experience that doesn’t feel cheap or unfinished.

Developer Notes

Looking at the other reviews on the App Store, this DVloper fellow has made a whole series of these Slendrina games. People seem to like them, and they mention he updates his games regularly to keep them working on new phones. My iPhone 15 Pro ran it without a single hiccup or crash. I’ve never had a reason to contact support, which is always a good sign. The app store page is clean and tells you exactly what you’re getting. It gives me confidence that the developer knows what he’s doing and stands by his work.

Security & Privacy

I always check the “App Privacy” section on the iPhone before I download anything. This one was very straightforward. It said the app might collect some data used for tracking, like for showing you those personalized ads. It didn’t ask for access to my contacts, photos, or location, which I appreciated. It just needed basic device data to function. That made me feel comfortable installing it. I haven’t noticed any strange behavior on my phone since, no extra battery drain or pop-ups from other places.

Frequently asked questions
How do the controls and flashlight work in Slendrina: The Cellar 2?

The game uses a simple on-screen joystick for movement and clear buttons to toggle your flashlight or interact with keys and doors. You don't need to adjust any complicated settings—just tap and go.

What makes the horror atmosphere so effective in this game?

The sound design is the standout feature: you'll hear Slendrina's giggling and footsteps through your headphones, which makes her feel terrifyingly close. Combined with a flashlight that only lights a small circle, you're constantly on edge peering into the dark.

Why do all the hallways look the same, and how can I stop getting lost?

The cellar's brick corridors are intentionally repetitive to increase tension, but this can be frustrating. A good fix is to mentally note landmarks like unique doors or barrels, and always check your map if the game offers one—otherwise, try sticking to one wall as you explore.

The game froze or crashed on my iPhone—what should I do?

First, close the app completely and restart your phone; this clears temporary glitches. If it keeps happening, make sure your iOS is up to date and reinstall the game—your progress is usually saved to your device.

How does Slendrina: The Cellar 2 compare to Slender: The Eight Pages?

Both are free horror games where you collect items while being stalked, but Slendrina feels more claustrophobic with its cellar setting and adds a crossbow for defense. Slender: The Eight Pages has larger outdoor areas and no weapons, making it more about pure evasion.
