No timers screaming at you, just customers who wait patiently. That matters to me at my age. I don’t need stress from a phone game. I spend maybe an hour playing each evening after dinner, and it’s become a nice little routine.

Features Worth Noting

The best part is you don’t need the internet to play. I took it with me on a road trip to visit my sister last weekend, and it worked fine in the car through the mountains where my signal kept dropping. There are lots of drink flavors to unlock—caramel, peppermint, hazelnut, even some fancy ones I’ve never heard of. You also get to decorate your shop with furniture and little plants, which my granddaughter thinks is hilarious because I “can’t even keep a real fern alive.” But I enjoy picking out the wallpaper. There are mini-games too, like one where you have to tap fast to grind beans. My hands aren’t as steady as they used to be, so I’m not great at those, but they’re optional. The colors are bright without being harsh, and the font is big enough that I don’t need my reading glasses. That alone is a win.

What Needs Work

Not everything is perfect. I had a problem on my second day where the game froze right after a customer ordered a latte. I had to close it and restart, losing my progress for that round. I tried the support button in the app’s settings on Wednesday morning. I wrote a polite message explaining what happened. They replied two days later with a generic message saying to “try restarting your device.” I’d already done that. It felt like they didn’t really read what I wrote. That frustrated me, especially since I paid for this app. I get that they’re busy, but a little more personal attention would go a long way. Also, after about an hour of playing, my iPhone 14 gets warm. Not burning hot, but warm enough that I notice. And the ads that pop up to watch for extra coins—I accidentally tapped one and ended up on some website I didn’t want. They should have a bigger close button.

Pricing

The app costs money upfront, which I honestly prefer. I’d rather pay once than deal with a free app that nags me every two minutes to buy gems or remove ads. There are still in-app purchases inside—you can buy “coins” to speed up upgrades—but I haven’t felt pressured to spend a penny beyond the initial purchase. For a retiree on a fixed income, that matters. I think it was around four or five dollars. That’s less than a real coffee at the café near my house. So fair enough.

Developer Notes

I looked into Flipline Studios because I was curious if they made other games. Apparently they have a whole series of these “Papa’s” games—burgers, tacos, even ice cream. I respect that they’ve stuck with this formula for years. It shows they know what works. That said, I wish they’d put a little more effort into customer support. A live chat or at least a FAQ page inside the app would help. Right now you have to email them and wait. At my age, I don’t want to wait. I want answers while I still remember what my question was.

Security & Privacy

This isn’t something I usually think about, but my son checked it for me because he worries about these things. He said the app asks for permission to access your photos and camera, which seems odd for a coffee game. I denied both and it still works fine. No account sign-up needed either, which I like because I’m tired of making passwords I’ll forget. So as far as I can tell, it’s safe. Just don’t let it access anything it doesn’t need.
