My Experience with Order please! -Draw&Story game

I got this app a little over a month ago because my old sketchpad app just got cluttered with ads and stopped being useful. I’m a college student so I’m always looking for free stuff to mess around with between classes. I’m not an artist or anything, but I like drawing dumb stuff on my iPhone 15 Pro when I’m bored in the library or waiting for my buddy Sam to show up for lunch. One Tuesday afternoon I was sitting in the student union and I started a new story about a cat that runs a pizza place. I drew a really bad cat with a chef hat and added text saying “make me a pepperoni pizza, meow.” Honestly, I laughed at how ugly it was. But then like an hour later, someone else added a drawing of a rat customer complaining about the service. That’s when I realized this app is more about being silly with strangers than making actual art. It’s not for serious artists, it’s for people who want to be goofy and collaborative. I’ve used it maybe three times a week since then. Some stories get really weird and random, which is the best part. It’s also a good way to kill time when I’m procrastinating on studying for my history exams.

Features Worth Noting

The main thing is you can start a drawing, add some words, and then other people can add their own drawings and text to keep the story going. It’s like a chain reaction of doodles. The drawing tools have basic stuff like different brush sizes and a bunch of colors, which is enough for me since I’m not trying to make masterpieces. You can also see other people’s stories and jump in to add your own twist, which feels like you’re part of a weird online club. I like that I can just pick a story from a list and contribute something stupid. There’s also a way to save your final story as an image, so I saved the cat pizza one and sent it to Sam. He thought it was hilarious. The app doesn’t force you to make an account right away, which I appreciate because I hate signing up for things I might not stick with. Honestly, the best feature is just how simple it is. You open it, you draw, you type, you see what other people did. No tutorials, no nonsense.

What Needs Work

Okay so here’s the thing. The drawing tools are pretty basic. I mean really basic. There’s no undo button for some actions, so if you mess up a line you have to start over or just cover it up. That drove me crazy the first few times. Also, sometimes the app feels a little slow when loading other people’s stories, especially if there’s a lot of drawings in one thread. I have an iPhone 15 Pro with good internet, so it shouldn’t lag that much. Another thing is that I wish you could search for specific stories or topics. Right now you just scroll through a feed and hope you find something interesting. On Friday night I wanted to find a horror-themed story but I had to scroll through like ten drawings of food puns before I gave up. And the app could use a dark mode. I used it in my dorm at night and the white background hurt my eyes. For a free app I’m not complaining too much, but these little things would make it way better.

Pricing

It’s free to download and use, which is pretty much the only reason I tried it. There are some in-app purchases for extra colors or brush styles, but I haven’t bought any of them. You don’t really need them for basic fun. I’m a student, I can’t afford to pay for every silly app I download. So the fact that I can use all the main features without spending a cent is a win for me. I did see an option to remove ads for like a few bucks, but the ads aren’t super annoying yet so I’m holding off. If the app started shoving ads in my face every time I finished a drawing, I’d probably delete it. But for now, it’s fine.

Developer Notes

I haven’t had to contact support because the app worked fine for me overall. But I did check the reviews on the App Store before downloading, and I saw some people saying the developer responds to feedback and updates the app now and then. That’s a good sign. A few reviews mentioned bugs that got fixed later, so it seems like they actually care. I hope they add more drawing tools and a dark mode soon. If they do, I’d probably write a better review. But for a free app from a smaller developer, I’m not going to expect too much.

Security & Privacy

I’m not super paranoid about privacy, but I did notice the app asks for access to your photo library if you want to save drawings. That makes sense. It doesn’t ask for my location or contacts or anything creepy. It also doesn’t seem to bombard me with weird permission requests. I don’t think they’re selling my data or anything, but honestly I didn’t read the privacy policy. I just know it doesn’t ask for my email or force me to make an account to use it. That’s enough for me. If you’re really worried about privacy, you can use a fake name for your stories, because nobody checks anyway.
