About NotesNChat
I needed this app for my gardening club. We were trying to plan our community plot and things were a mess. Someone would text a plant idea, I’d scribble it on a notepad, and by Tuesday I couldn’t remember who suggested what. My grandson found NotesNChat for me. I was skeptical because it’s free and from a developer I’d never heard of, but after a year, I can’t imagine going back. It doesn’t try to do a hundred things; it just lets you write notes and talk to people in the same place, which is exactly what I needed.
Features & Highlights
The best part is how simple it is. On the main screen, my notes are on the left and my chats are on the right. I don’t have to be a computer whiz to understand it. When my friend Margie messages in our “Sunshine Gardeners” chat about needing more tomato cages, I can just tap and make a note called “Supplies Needed” right then and there. I love the tags. I tag notes with things like #MeetingMinutes or #SeedSwap. Last month, I needed to find the date we agreed on for the spring clean-up. I just searched for the tag and there it was. The text can be bolded and you can make lists, which is all I really need. I tried the voice note once when my hands were dirty, and it worked fine.
User Experience
It just makes sense. I figured it out in an afternoon, and I’m not one for complicated phone apps. The layout is clean and not cluttered with buttons I’ll never use. A real lifesaver was last Thursday at the hardware store. Margie called asking what type of fertilizer we decided on. Instead of panicking, I opened the app, went to our chat, and scrolled up to find the note I’d pasted about it. I read her the brand name right off my phone. It felt very clever. The night mode is a blessing for my old eyes when I’m planning in the evening. Notifications are sensible too—it only buzzes for new messages, not every time someone edits a shared list.
Pricing
It’s completely free. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasn’t. There are small ads along the bottom of the screen, but they’re just pictures. They don’t play loud videos or jump around. They’ve never gotten in my way while I’m trying to write something. For an app that solved such a specific headache for my club, getting it for nothing feels like a gift. If the developer ever asked for a couple dollars to remove the ads, I’d probably do it just to support them.
Updates & Support
The app updates every now and then, usually just saying “bug fixes.” It’s been very stable on my OnePlus phone. I did have one problem where a note I made on my tablet didn’t show up on my phone. I sent a message to their support using the link in the app. I heard back in about three days. The person who wrote was very helpful and not robotic. They explained what might have happened and how to fix it. It wasn’t instant, but they did solve my problem. You can tell it’s a small team, but they care.
Security & Privacy
I got it from the regular Google Play Store. I read their privacy page. It says my notes and chats are stored securely to keep everything synced between my devices, but they aren’t snooping on the content. I believe it because the ads I see are for things like grocery delivery, not gardening supplies. If they were reading my notes about heirloom tomatoes, I’m sure I’d be getting ads for seeds. It feels safe enough for my gardening plans and chatting with the club.
How do I create a note directly from a chat message?
When you're in a chat, just tap on the message you want to save, and you can instantly create a new note from it. This way, important ideas from conversations like 'Supplies Needed' are captured right away without switching screens.
Can I organize my notes with tags, and how do I search for them?
Yes, you can add tags like #MeetingMinutes or #SeedSwap to any note. To find a tagged note later, simply use the search bar and type the tag name, and it will pull up all related notes instantly.
I accidentally deleted a note or chat. Is there a way to recover it?
NotesNChat does not have a built-in trash or recovery feature, so deleted items are gone for good. To avoid losing important info, we recommend regularly backing up your notes by exporting them or copying key details to a separate safe place.
Why am I not getting notifications when someone sends a new message?
First, check that your phone's notification settings allow NotesNChat to send alerts. Also, make sure you haven't muted the specific chat—open the chat, tap the settings icon, and confirm that notifications are enabled for that conversation.
How does NotesNChat compare to a full-featured app like Evernote or Slack?
NotesNChat is much simpler and focused—it combines notes and chats in one clean interface without extra tools like project boards or complex integrations. If you just need a straightforward way to write notes and talk with a group, it's easier to learn and less overwhelming than those bigger apps.
