About Mythic GME 2e
I’ve been using this app on my iPhone for several months, ever since my old Dungeons & Dragons group stopped meeting. My grandson mentioned it, saying it could help me play by myself. I was looking for something to keep my mind sharp and tell a fun story, not to get a headache. For the most part, it does let me create adventures. I can sit in my sunroom on a Tuesday morning and decide what my elf character does next. The idea is wonderful. Actually figuring out how to make it work, though, has been a real mixed bag. Some days it clicks and I have a lovely time. Other days, I just give up and go read a book instead.
Features & Highlights
The main thing is this “Fate Chart.” You ask the app a yes or no question about your story, like “Is the castle gate guarded?” and it gives you an answer based on chance. That part is genuinely magical. It surprised me last week. I asked if a suspicious merchant was telling the truth, and the app said “Exceptional Yes,” which meant he was not only honest but had crucial information. It sent my story in a whole new direction I never would have thought of. There are also tables for random events. Once, during a simple river crossing, it generated an “NPC Action” event that had a friendly giant offer to carry us across. Those moments make me smile. It’s like having a very unpredictable friend helping you write.
User Experience
This is where my patience runs thin. I’m not a tech wizard, I just want things to be clear. The buttons aren’t always labeled in a way I understand. Tapping “Threads” or “Lists” takes me to screens full of jargon. I still don’t know what half of the symbols on the main screen mean. I’ve accidentally closed my adventure log twice because the “save” button is in a different place than I expect. On my iPhone 15 Pro, it runs fine, no crashes. But the layout feels cluttered. Why is the dice roller so big when the button to start a new scene is tucked away in a corner? It shouldn’t be this hard to just play.
Pricing
It cost me $2.99. For a one-time payment with no sneaky subscriptions or ads, that’s perfectly fair. I’ve spent more on a bad lunch. When the app is working as I hope, I feel I got my money’s worth for the entertainment. It’s cheaper than buying all the physical books and charts, that’s for sure. The price isn’t the problem. I just wish the money bought a smoother experience and better help when you need it.
Updates & Support
This was the biggest letdown. I got stuck on how to use the “Meaning Tables.” The instructions in the app were no help. So, I emailed the developer using the contact address I found. That was over three weeks ago. I got a reply back after a week, but it just linked me to a general FAQ page I’d already read. It didn’t answer my specific question at all. I wrote back to clarify, and I’ve heard nothing since. It left me feeling completely on my own. For an app that’s supposed to guide you, the lack of real support is very disappointing.
Security & Privacy
I got it from the regular Apple App Store, so I felt safe doing that. The app never asked to look at my photos or contacts, which I like. As far as I can tell, everything I write in my adventure logs stays right on my phone. There are no pop-up ads or anything trying to sell me more stuff. It feels like a private notebook, and that’s important to me. I don’t want my silly story about a halfling baker turned hero being sent off to who-knows-where.
How does the Fate Chart work in Mythic GME 2e?
The Fate Chart lets you ask yes/no questions about your story, like 'Is the castle gate guarded?' The app gives you an answer based on chance, and it can even deliver surprising results like an 'Exceptional Yes' that sends your adventure in a new direction.
What kind of random events can I expect from the app?
The app includes tables for random events, such as an 'NPC Action' event where a friendly giant might offer to carry your party across a river. These events add unexpected twists that make solo play feel lively and creative.
Why are the buttons and screens so confusing, and how can I fix that?
Many users find terms like 'Threads' or 'Lists' unclear, and symbols on the main screen aren't explained well. To avoid frustration, try the app's tutorial or look up beginner guides online, which explain each button in plain English.
I accidentally closed my adventure log and lost progress. How do I save properly?
The save button is in a different spot than you might expect, so always double-check before closing. Make it a habit to tap the save icon after each major scene, and consider using the auto-save feature if your version supports it.
How does Mythic GME 2e compare to other solo RPG tools like the original Mythic GME?
Mythic GME 2e adds a digital interface with a built-in dice roller and automated tables, making it faster than the original pen-and-paper version. However, the original is simpler to learn, while the app's cluttered layout can be harder to navigate for non-tech-savvy users.
