My Experience with Mouse Simulator : Forest Home

I downloaded this because I needed a break from my work project, something mindless to do on my iPhone 14 during my commute. Two weeks later, I’m still playing it. It’s not complicated, and that’s the point. You’re just a mouse. The first time I played was last Tuesday on the train home, and I spent the whole 20-minute ride just gathering moss and twigs to build my nest in a stump. It sounds silly, but it was weirdly satisfying. The world is bright and full of little bugs and plants, and there’s no pressure. You forage for berries, drink from puddles, and just explore. It completely shuts my brain off from work stuff. I haven’t had any crashes or major bugs, it just worked from the start.

Features Worth Noting

The best part is how simple everything is. Making your nest is fun—you drag leaves and fluff to a spot you like. I chose a cozy spot under some big roots. The hunger and thirst meters keep you moving, but it’s not stressful. Finding a hidden cluster of mushrooms or a juicy apple core feels like a real win. I also like the little animal quests. A badger asked me to find some shiny pebbles, and it led me to a part of the stream I hadn’t seen before. The day turns to night, and the forest feels different. Fireflies come out, and you have to watch for owls. It’s all very peaceful, even when you’re hiding. The sounds are great too, all the rustling and chirping.

What Needs Work

The controls took me a full day to stop hating. The virtual joystick on the screen is a bit slippery, and with the camera so low to the ground, I kept getting stuck on tiny rocks or tree roots. It can be frustrating when you’re trying to run from a fox and you spin in a circle instead. Also, the map isn’t much help. It’s just a blank circle that fills in as you go, but it doesn’t show landmarks. I got lost near the big rock formation for ages because everything looks similar. A simple compass or the ability to place a custom marker on your nest would be a huge fix.

Pricing

It’s free, which is awesome. You get the whole game. The ads are mostly small banners at the bottom that I honestly forget are there. Sometimes after you collect a bunch of stuff, it asks if you want to watch a video to double it. I do that sometimes if the ad is short. There’s an option to pay to remove ads completely, but I haven’t felt the need. For a free game, you get a lot. No sneaky paywalls blocking you from parts of the forest or anything like that.

Developer Notes

I haven’t had to contact support, but I checked the App Store reviews. Avelog Games seems pretty on it. People report bugs, and there are update notes every few weeks talking about fixes or adding a new type of berry or something. That’s a good sign. It means they haven’t just dumped the app and forgotten it. Some reviews from months ago mention problems that I didn’t run into, so they’re clearly patching things up.

Security & Privacy

I didn’t have to make an account or give any info to start playing, which I always prefer. The app store listing says they might collect some data for ads, which makes sense since it’s a free game with banners. It didn’t ask for access to my contacts or photos or anything weird. It feels like a normal, low-risk mobile game. I’m not worried about it.

Frequently asked questions
What can you actually do in Mouse Simulator: Forest Home?

You play as a mouse exploring a bright forest, gathering moss, twigs, berries, and other items to build your nest and survive. There are simple hunger and thirst meters that encourage you to forage, and you can take on small quests from animals like a badger asking for shiny pebbles.

How does the nest-building mechanic work?

You drag leaves, fluff, and other materials to a chosen spot—like under roots or inside a stump—to gradually build your nest. It's a relaxing, hands-on process that lets you customize your home without any complex menus or crafting systems.

The virtual joystick feels slippery and I keep getting stuck on objects. Is there a fix?

This is a common complaint, and there's no in-game sensitivity adjustment yet. Try reducing your finger's contact area or using a screen protector with a matte finish for better grip, and take slow, deliberate movements to avoid spinning out.

Why is the map so unhelpful, and how can I stop getting lost?

The map is a blank circle that only reveals terrain as you explore, with no landmarks or compass. To avoid getting lost, focus on memorizing unique features like the big rock formation or the stream, and always note the direction you came from when heading to a new area.

How does Mouse Simulator compare to other animal sim games like 'Cat Goes Fishing'?

While 'Cat Goes Fishing' is about focused fishing progression, Mouse Simulator is more about open-ended exploration and nest-building with a stronger survival twist. It's less goal-driven and more about unwinding in a peaceful, detailed forest world.
