First Impression

My first thought was, “Okay, this opens fast.” I was on the bus last Tuesday, had five minutes to kill, and the app was ready to go before I even finished the thought. No fancy intro, just straight into the videos. That’s a huge plus for me. The interface is barebones, which I actually liked at first. It felt clean. I scrolled through a few clips—some guy fixing a sink, a dog failing at catching a treat, the usual stuff. It loaded them without a hitch even with my spotty signal. For a free app I downloaded out of curiosity, the initial speed was promising. It didn’t feel like it was wasting my time right out of the gate.

What It Does Well

The main thing this app gets right is not being a resource hog. On my Galaxy S23, the main video apps feel bloated. Moj Lite is tiny. It doesn’t drain my battery during a 20-minute scroll session like others do. The “For You” page did start to pick up on what I like after a couple of days. I kept liking these short tech tip videos about Android shortcuts, and soon my feed was full of them instead of endless dance challenges. When I tried making a video myself, it was stupidly simple. I filmed my cat, Mittens, knocking a cup off the counter last Saturday, picked a sound from their library, and posted it in maybe 60 seconds. The tools are basic, but they work without a learning curve. For a no-fuss, lightweight viewer, it delivers.

Where It Falls Short

The ads. My god, the ads. They hit you like a brick wall every five or six videos. Just when I’m getting into a groove, bam, a full-screen ad for a mobile game I will never play. They’re skippable after a few seconds, but that interruption completely kills my momentum. It feels disrespectful of my time. Also, the algorithm gets stuck in a loop. After it learned I like tech tips, it showed me the SAME three tips about battery saving for two days straight. I get it, my battery is bad. Show me something new. The “follow” button is also placed exactly where my thumb rests when I’m holding my phone one-handed. I’ve accidentally followed at least four random accounts I have zero interest in.

Is It Worth the Price?

It’s free, so you get what you pay for. You’re paying with your time and patience, watching those relentless ads. For a completely free app that saves on data and storage, I guess the trade-off is fair. But “free” doesn’t mean it gets a pass for being annoying. If you just want a barebones video scroller and have a high tolerance for interruptions, go for it. I keep it around for when I’m on a slow network and don’t want to open a heavier app. But it’s not my first choice for entertainment because the experience is constantly being fractured.

Developer & Support

It’s from ShareChat, which seems legit. The app has updated once since I installed it, which is a good sign they’re at least maintaining it. I had to contact support because I couldn’t figure out how to turn off email notifications. The help section in the app was useless—just generic FAQs. I sent an email through their contact form. They did get back to me with clear instructions, but it took three full days. For a minor settings issue, that’s too long. I expect better, even for a free product. If I had a real problem, like a hacked account, I’d be furious waiting that long.

Privacy & Safety

The privacy policy is a long document I skimmed, like everyone does. It collects the usual data for ads and recommendations. I’m not thrilled about it, but that’s the standard deal for any free social app. The content moderation seems okay. I haven’t stumbled across anything blatantly harmful or shocking, which is more than I can say for some other platforms. The comments on videos can get pretty spammy, though, with lots of bot-like accounts posting emoji chains. It doesn’t feel like a tightly moderated space, but as a viewer, it hasn’t felt unsafe. I just don’t engage in the comments.

Frequently asked questions
How fast does Moj Lite load and how easy is it to use?

Moj Lite opens almost instantly and gets you straight to watching videos with no fancy intro. Creating your own video is also very simple—you can film, add a sound from the library, and post in about 60 seconds with basic but effective tools.

Does Moj Lite drain your battery or take up a lot of space?

No, Moj Lite is designed to be lightweight and runs smoothly even on older phones. It won't drain your battery during a 20-minute scroll session like many other video apps, and it takes up very little storage space.

Why am I seeing so many ads, and can I skip them?

Ads appear frequently, roughly every five or six videos, and they are full-screen interruptions. They are skippable after a few seconds, but the constant breaks can really kill your viewing momentum.

The algorithm keeps showing me the same videos, how do I fix that?

This is a known issue where the algorithm can get stuck showing you repeats of the same content, like the same three tech tips for days. Unfortunately, there isn't a built-in way to refresh it, but liking and engaging with new types of videos may help shift your feed over time.

How does Moj Lite compare to other video apps like TikTok or Instagram Reels?

Moj Lite is much smaller and less resource-intensive than TikTok or Instagram Reels, so it loads faster and uses less battery. However, it lacks some advanced editing features and has more frequent, intrusive ads that can make the experience feel less polished.
