About MetroNews Television

I saw a post about this app on my neighborhood Facebook group last Tuesday and just downloaded it to see what the fuss was about. I’m not a big news person, but I like knowing what’s happening close to home without all the national drama. Three days in, and it’s pretty much what I wanted. It’s just my city’s news channel, right on my phone. It feels familiar, like the channel my mom always has on in the background. I don’t need a worldwide news feed, I just want to know if there’s a water main break on my street or why the sirens were going off, and this app does that.

Features & Highlights

The live TV part is the best. Yesterday morning, I was about to leave for work and my partner mentioned hearing about a crash on the radio. I opened the MetroNews app, tapped the live stream, and bam—there was their traffic reporter in the helicopter showing the exact mess on the highway I take. I saw it with my own eyes and took a different route. That alone made downloading it worth it. The videos on demand are good too; I watched a segment about a new pizza place opening downtown that I’d missed on actual TV. The notifications are okay, but I turned most of them off except for severe weather. I got one about a thunderstorm warning right as the sky got dark, which was handy.

User Experience

It’s simple. I open it and the big stories are right there. I can find the weather forecast in two taps. Nothing fancy, which is good because I’m usually doing three other things at once. On my Samsung A54, it runs fine. I did have one video buffer for like ten seconds in the middle of a story about the school board, but it sorted itself out. The layout doesn’t confuse me. The buttons are big enough to press without hitting the wrong thing. It’s not the prettiest app I’ve ever seen, but it works. It gets me the local info I want without making me think too hard.

Pricing

It’s free. You watch a short ad before some of the recorded news clips, which is totally fair. The ads are usually for local car dealerships or furniture stores, and you can skip them after a few seconds. I haven’t seen any of those terrible full-screen pop-ups that you can’t close. For getting my local news channel in my pocket without paying a cable bill, I really can’t complain. Free is the right price for this.

Updates & Support

I haven’t had to contact anyone because nothing has broken for me. Looking at the reviews on the Play Store, it seems like most people are happy and the few complaints are about specific streams not loading, which I haven’t run into. The app page shows it was updated about three weeks ago. I don’t know what they fixed, but everything feels stable on my phone. It just works, which is all I ask for.

Security & Privacy

I got it from the Play Store like any other app. It asked if it could send me notifications, which makes sense. I didn’t have to sign up for an account or give my email, which I liked. I poked around in the settings and there’s a privacy policy to read if you want. The ads I see don’t feel like they’re following me from other apps—they’re just generic local commercials. That’s fine by me. It feels low-key and not creepy.

Frequently asked questions
Can I watch the live news broadcast on MetroNews Television?

Yes, the live TV feature is a highlight. You can tap the live stream to see real-time coverage, like traffic reports from a helicopter, which is great for avoiding accidents or delays on your commute.

Does the app let you watch news segments you missed on TV?

Absolutely, there's a video-on-demand section where you can catch up on stories that already aired. For example, you can watch a segment about a new local restaurant that you might have missed during the live broadcast.

Why does the video sometimes pause or buffer in the middle of a story?

Occasional buffering can happen, especially if your internet connection is slow or unstable. The app usually recovers on its own after a few seconds, so just wait a moment and it should resume playing.

How do I stop getting too many notifications from this app?

You can customize notifications in the app's settings. Many users turn off most alerts and keep only severe weather warnings, which is handy for staying safe without being overwhelmed by constant pings.

How does MetroNews Television compare to a national news app like CNN?

Unlike national apps that focus on worldwide headlines, MetroNews Television is purely local—it shows your city's news, weather, and traffic. It's simpler and less cluttered, perfect if you just want to know what's happening on your street without the national drama.
