First Impression
Manhunt appears on the Play Store with a decent rating and a free price tag, which may attract users looking for a straightforward dating app. However, the initial experience feels dated. The interface is blocky, dark, and reminiscent of early-2010s design, with a cluttered layout of buttons and menus that can be confusing to navigate. Profile setup is functional, but users are immediately met with frequent notifications—emails for profile views and pop-ups for premium features—which may raise concerns about the app’s overall polish. It gives the impression of a website adapted for mobile rather than a modern, native app.
What It Does Well
Despite the dated interface, the core functionality works reasonably well. The search filters are notably effective, allowing users to find others nearby who are currently online. For example, filtering by distance and recent activity yields accurate results, and conversations with real users are possible without the endless swiping common in other apps. The “Online Now” list stands out as the app’s strongest feature, providing a straightforward way to browse and message local users. For those seeking direct, location-based interaction, this delivers on its basic promise.
Where It Falls Short
The app is hampered by several persistent annoyances. Ads are frequent and sometimes intrusive, with banners for external sites occasionally covering chat windows. Users may also encounter profiles that appear fake—featuring model-quality photos, no location details, and prompts to move conversations to other platforms. The overall experience feels cluttered and neglected, with sections like forums and blogs appearing inactive and abandoned. This gives the impression that the app lacks ongoing maintenance and attention from its developers.
Is It Worth the Price?
As a free user, basic features—search, profile viewing, and messaging—are available. However, the app aggressively promotes its premium subscription, locking features like seeing who has favorited a profile behind a paywall. After testing the free version over a period of time, the value of upgrading is questionable. The free tier is sufficient for casual browsing, but constant upsells and ads make the experience feel less premium. Paying a monthly fee for an app with an outdated design and limited support seems difficult to justify for most users.
Developer & Support
Support responsiveness is a notable weakness. When a user encountered an issue with profile picture uploads failing after a few days, the in-app contact form yielded a response only after several days. The reply was a single, vague suggestion to “try again on a stronger network connection,” which did not address the underlying problem. This level of support suggests limited resources or attention to user-reported issues, which can be frustrating for those seeking reliable assistance.
