About Jobships
What surprised me most was how many jobs it actually found. My grandson mentioned it online, so I downloaded it to my iPhone just to see what the fuss was about. I’m retired but I do some part-time consulting, and I thought it might be a simpler way to look than getting lost on all those big websites. It’s a free app from Jobships.com, and I’ve had it for a few months now. My first thought was that it looked a bit busy, but I figured I could get the hang of it.
Core Features
The main thing is the list of jobs. You tell it what you’re looking for—I put in “project management” and “part-time”—and it shows you a big scroll of openings. That part works well. I like that you can sometimes apply right from the app without being sent to another site. They have a section with career advice, but most of it seems written for people half my age. There’s also a forum where people talk about job hunting, which I looked at once. It was just a lot of people complaining, which wasn’t very helpful for me.
Real-World Use
Here’s where I get a bit frustrated. It works, but it doesn’t always work smoothly. Just last Tuesday morning, I was sitting with my coffee trying to save a job listing. The little bookmark icon was tiny and I tapped it three times before anything happened. Then when I went to find my saved jobs later, I had to tap through two different menus to get there. It shouldn’t be that hard! On a positive note, having all my applications in one list is a lifesaver. I can’t remember where I’ve applied otherwise. The alerts are hit or miss; sometimes they’re spot-on, other times I get notified for jobs in another state.
Pricing & Value
You can’t beat the price. It’s completely free. For that, I can put up with the ads. They show up as banners at the bottom, and every so often when you move from one part of the app to another, a full video ad pops up. It’s a bit of a nuisance, especially if you’re in a hurry, but I understand they have to make money somehow. For a free tool to help you look for work, it delivers good value. I haven’t seen any hidden costs or pressure to pay for anything.
Updates & Support
This was a disappointing experience. A month ago, the app stopped sending me any email alerts at all. I went into the settings and everything looked right. I finally found the “Contact Support” form buried in a help section. I sent a message explaining my problem. The auto-reply came right away, but then… nothing. For two whole days. When a person finally wrote back, the email was vague, just saying “try checking your notification settings.” I’d already done that! It made me feel like they weren’t really listening. The app itself does get updated every few weeks, which is good, but the support side needs work.
Data & Privacy
I got the app from the regular Apple App Store, so I trust that much. I did look at their privacy policy because it asks for a lot of information about your job history and what you search for. The policy is long and full of legal words, but the gist is they use your data to show you better job matches. I’m okay with that for the service, but I always wonder where that information really ends up. I was careful not to put my full address or social security number anywhere in my profile, just to be safe.
How do I search for jobs on Jobships?
Just type what you're looking for—like 'project management' or 'part-time'—into the search bar, and you'll get a big scrollable list of openings. You can often apply directly from the app without being redirected to another website, which saves time.
Does Jobships have any career advice or community features?
Yes, there's a section with career advice, though it tends to be geared toward younger job seekers. There's also a forum where people discuss job hunting, but it's mostly complaints, so it may not be very useful if you're looking for practical tips.
Why are my saved jobs so hard to find in the app?
The bookmark icon for saving a job is quite small, and you may need to tap it a few times. To view your saved jobs later, you have to navigate through two different menus, which can be frustrating—hopefully Jobships simplifies this in a future update.
How can I fix job alerts that show jobs from other states?
Job alerts on Jobships can be inconsistent—sometimes they're accurate, other times they include jobs far away. To improve them, double-check your location settings in the app and make sure your search filters are set to your preferred distance or region.
How does Jobships compare to other free job search apps like Indeed?
Jobships is completely free, just like Indeed, but it's more streamlined for quick searching and applying without leaving the app. However, it has more ads (including full-screen video ads) and a less polished interface, whereas Indeed offers more robust filtering and a larger job database.
