My Experience with Holy Quran Offline Reading

I got this app because my friend Sarah kept talking about how she uses it on her commute. I’ve had it on my Pixel 7 for a little over a month, and that time has definitely been worth it. It just works, which is all I really ask for. Last Tuesday, I was stuck in a waiting room with terrible cell service, and I was able to pull it up, pick up right where I left off, and listen to a recitation without any buffering. That’s the whole point for me. It feels simple and gets out of my way so I can just focus on reading. It opens right to my last page every single time, which I love. I don’t have to fiddle around or remember where I was.

Features Worth Noting

The offline thing is the main reason I keep it. I downloaded everything on my home Wi-Fi once—the Arabic text, the English translation, and the audio—and that was it. Now I use it on the train, in the park, anywhere. The search is surprisingly good. I remembered part of a verse about kindness but couldn’t recall the Surah, so I just typed “kindness” and it showed me all the relevant verses. Bookmarking is a lifesaver. I have one for my daily reading progress, another for a verse my mom wanted me to look at, and a third for a specific reciter I like. Changing the font size and the page color to a softer tone made reading for longer periods much easier on my eyes. The audio players are clean and simple to use.

What Needs Work

My big gripe is with support. A few weeks ago, the app started crashing every time I tried to switch to a specific translation. It was frustrating. I found the contact email in the Play Store and sent a message explaining the problem. The reply took almost a week, and when it came, it was super vague. They just said “try restarting the app” and “make sure your device is updated,” which I’d obviously already done. It felt like they didn’t even read my email properly. That left a bad taste. Also, while the ads are usually just a small bar at the bottom, sometimes a full-screen ad pops up when I close a chapter, which is really jarring and breaks my focus.

Pricing

It’s free. You can’t argue with that price. All the important stuff—the Quran, translations, audio—is completely free to download and use. I haven’t seen any prompts to upgrade to a “pro” version or anything like that. The ads are there to support it, I get that. Most of the time they’re just those little banners at the very bottom of the screen and I forget they’re even there. The occasional full-screen one is annoying, but for a totally free app that does this much, I can live with it. It’s a solid deal.

Developer Notes

The app is made by JedyApps. I see it gets updates every now and then in the Play Store, which is a good sign that someone is still looking after it. The updates usually say things like “bug fixes” or “performance improvements.” Aside from my poor support experience, the app itself feels maintained. It hasn’t gotten buggier over the month I’ve used it. I just wish their support was more responsive and actually helpful when you have a real problem. A faster, more personal reply would make a huge difference in how supported I feel as a user.

Security & Privacy

I got it from the normal Google Play Store on my phone. When you first open it, it asks for permission to access your device’s storage, which makes sense because it needs to save all the Quran and audio files you download. It also needs network access for the ads. I didn’t have to sign up for an account or give my email to use any features, which I really prefer. It’s just an app on my phone. I don’t get the sense it’s collecting my data or anything shady. It feels straightforward.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really read and listen to the Quran without an internet connection?

Yes, once you download the Arabic text, English translation, and audio files over Wi-Fi, everything works offline. You can open the app anywhere—on a train, in a park, or in a waiting room—and read or listen without buffering.

How do I find a specific verse if I only remember a few words?

The app has a surprisingly good search feature. Just type a keyword like 'kindness' and it will show you all relevant verses across different Surahs, making it easy to find what you're looking for.

The app started crashing when I switch translations. What should I do?

First, try restarting the app and making sure your device is updated, as those steps resolve many issues. If the problem persists, contact support through the Play Store, but be aware that replies can take up to a week and may feel generic.

How do I stop the app from losing my reading progress?

The app automatically opens to your last page every time, so you don't need to do anything special. For extra safety, use the bookmarking feature to mark your daily reading progress or specific verses you want to revisit.

How does this app compare to other Quran apps like Quran Majeed?

While Quran Majeed offers similar offline features, Holy Quran Offline Reading stands out for its simplicity—it opens directly to your last page and has a clean, distraction-free interface. However, its customer support is slower and less helpful than what you'd find with some competitors.
