First Impression

I was stuck waiting at the dentist’s office last Tuesday, scrolling through the App Store to kill time, and Epicraft kept popping up with all these five-star reviews. I figured, why not, it’s free. I tapped download and ten minutes later I was already stacking blocks. That’s the best thing about it—you just get in. No long tutorial, no confusing menus. It felt familiar in a good way, like that classic computer game but made simple for your phone. The music is chill and the colors are bright. I built a little hut with a wonky roof before my name was even called, and I was honestly kinda bummed I had to stop.

What It Does Well

It just lets you play. I don’t want to think about specs or frames-per-second, I just want my game to work. On my iPhone 14, it runs smooth. I can build for an hour and my phone doesn’t even get that hot. The building feels natural after a few tries. I love that I can switch between just creating my own world and hopping into the little adventure challenges when I want a goal. Last Sunday, my nephew was over and we both installed it. We joined the same world and spent the whole afternoon building this massive, ugly fortress together. He was on his tablet, I was on my phone, and it just worked. We were laughing the whole time. That kind of easy, fun multiplayer is hard to find for free.

Where It Falls Short

My main gripe is with the controls sometimes. Trying to place a single specific block on a small screen can be a pain. I’ll be detailing the roof of my castle and suddenly I’ve put a window in the floor. It gets worse when you’re trying to build something intricate. Also, the game has crashed on me twice. Both times were when I’d built something really huge and tried to fly around it fast. It just froze and kicked me back to my home screen. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s frustrating when you lose a bit of progress. The ads are mostly okay, but sometimes a video ad pops up right when you finish a challenge and it kills the vibe for a second.

Is It Worth the Price?

Absolutely, it’s free. You can’t really argue with that. I’ve played way worse games that cost money. They have these optional purchases for fancy skins or themed block packs, like a space set or medieval furniture, but I’ve never bought any. You don’t need them at all to have fun. All the important stuff—every block type, the adventure mode, multiplayer—is totally free. The ads are there, but they’re usually just when you choose to get a bonus reward or between modes. They don’t interrupt you while you’re in the middle of building your masterpiece. For zero dollars, you get a ton of game.

Developer & Support

I had that crash issue I mentioned, so I used the “Report a Problem” button in the settings menu. I got an auto-reply email pretty quick saying they got my message. Then, nothing for like three days. I was starting to think they just ignored it. But then I got a real email from a person named Alex. They said they were aware of some stability issues with large builds and were working on a fix. Sure enough, about a week later, there was an update. I installed it and my giant castle hasn’t crashed the game since. So they fixed it, just not super fast.

Privacy & Safety

I got it from the normal App Store, so I wasn’t worried about viruses or anything. When you first try to play with friends online, it asks for permission to use the network, which makes sense. I let my nephew join my world through a friend code, not by making a public server. It feels safe for him to use. I poked around in the settings and didn’t see anything weird asking for my contacts or photos. It seems like it just needs basic stuff to run and connect you with other players, which is fine by me.

Frequently asked questions
How does multiplayer work in Epicraft?

Epicraft lets you and a friend join the same world easily, even if one of you is on a phone and the other on a tablet. The cross-platform play is smooth and free, so you can build together without any complicated setup.

Can I switch between creative building and adventure challenges?

Yes, Epicraft gives you the freedom to build your own worlds in creative mode or jump into adventure challenges when you want a goal. You can switch back and forth anytime, which keeps the game fresh and fun.

Why does the game crash sometimes, and how can I prevent it?

Epicraft can crash when you’ve built something very large and move around it too quickly, especially if you’re flying. To avoid this, save your progress often and try moving more slowly around big structures to keep the game stable.

The controls feel tricky when placing blocks precisely—any tips?

Placing individual blocks on a small screen can be finicky, and you might accidentally put a window in the floor. Try zooming in closer and tapping slowly to improve accuracy, especially when working on detailed builds like roofs.

How does Epicraft compare to Minecraft on mobile?

Epicraft is simpler and more streamlined than Minecraft, with no long tutorials or confusing menus—you just start building right away. It runs smoothly on most phones and offers free multiplayer, but it lacks some of Minecraft’s depth and has occasional control issues on small screens.
