My Experience with EMT PASS

I’m not a tech person, I just needed something to help me prep for my skills refresher course last month. My instructor mentioned EMT PASS, so I grabbed it on my iPhone. Honestly, I was hoping for something that felt a bit more modern. It works, but it’s like using an app from five years ago. I remember last Tuesday night, I was trying to cram some trauma assessment questions before bed. The app just felt slow to load between sections, and I kept tapping the wrong menu button because the layout isn’t super intuitive. It got the job done, but it wasn’t a smooth experience. For the price, I guess I expected it to feel a little more polished and easier to just jump into.

Features Worth Noting

The good stuff is all about the content. The practice quizzes are seriously helpful. You can do a quick 5-question set on patient assessment or dive into a full 50-question exam. I like that most answers have a little explanation, so you learn why you got it wrong. The videos are the other big win. Last week, I was at the station and we were talking about proper suctioning technique. I pulled out my phone, found the video in the app, and we all watched it right there. It’s way better than flipping through a manual. Also, being able to download flashcards for offline use is a lifesaver. I used it during my commute on the subway when I had no signal.

What Needs Work

The look and feel needs a major update. It’s not pretty, and sometimes it’s not clear where to click next. My biggest issue was with support, though. I had a problem where a quiz I completed didn’t save my score. I emailed them on a Monday morning explaining what happened. I didn’t hear back until Thursday afternoon, and their reply was pretty vague, just asking me to try closing and reopening the app—which I’d already done. It left me feeling kinda stuck and unsupported, especially after paying over thirty bucks. For a tool you rely on for important certification stuff, that’s not a great feeling.

Pricing

It costs $32.99. That’s a lot for an app, no two ways about it. It’s a one-time fee, which is better than some monthly subscriptions, but it still makes you pause. I bought it because I figured it was cheaper than a new textbook or a review course. For the amount of questions and videos you get, it probably is worth it if you’re serious about studying. But if you’re just casually browsing or want something free, this isn’t it. You’re paying for the content library, not a fancy experience.

Developer Notes

The app is made by Limmer Education. They seem to know their EMT stuff, which shows in the quality of the quiz questions and videos. But it feels like they put all their effort into the educational content and not much into the app itself. It doesn’t get updated very often, and when it does, it’s never about making it easier or nicer to use. They’ve built a solid study tool that feels trapped in an outdated package. I wish they’d spend some time giving the app the same care they clearly put into the lessons.

Security & Privacy

I got it from the regular App Store. The app doesn’t have any ads popping up, which is good since you paid for it. I didn’t have to make a super complicated account, just an email and password. Their privacy policy says they collect basic data to run the app, but it all seems pretty standard. Nothing about it set off alarm bells for me. It feels safe to use, which is one less thing to worry about when you’re trying to focus on studying.
