You earn coins and hearts by solving escape room puzzles where your dog is stuck in a scenario. Each puzzle you complete rewards you with these currencies, which you then use in the home section to feed, bathe, and dress up your virtual pet.

Once you have coins and hearts, you can feed, bathe, and dress up your dog in the home section. Bathing is more interactive than just tapping—you actually swipe a sponge to wash your pet, making it feel a bit more involved.

The game uses an energy system that depletes quickly, usually after just a few puzzles. When your dog's energy runs out, you must wait hours for it to refill, watch an ad, or pay to continue, which can interrupt spontaneous play sessions.

Ads pop up frequently for bonus rewards and are technically optional, but the game heavily nudges you to watch them. If you want to keep playing without waiting, you'll often have to sit through an ad to refill energy or get extra items.

Unlike My Talking Tom, which focuses on virtual pet interaction and mini-games, Dog Escape adds escape room puzzles as the main way to earn care items. It's less social and more puzzle-driven, but the energy system can be more restrictive than in other pet sims.
