About DJ Mix Studio – DJ Music Mixer

As someone who loves music but never had the budget for real DJ gear, I downloaded DJ Mix Studio by iMediaStar on a whim. I wanted to see if I could actually learn to blend tracks together without it feeling like rocket science. After a few weeks of tinkering, I can honestly say this app has become my go-to for creating custom mixes for my home workouts and small get-togethers with friends. It turns my phone into a legit, portable mixing board.

Features & Highlights

The feature set is deep for a free app. The two-deck layout is immediately familiar, and I was dropping my first beatmatch within minutes. What I use constantly is the loop function—I can isolate a killer 8-bar drum section from one song and let it run while I bring in the vocals from another. The built-in sampler with one-shot sounds is perfect for adding airhorns or classic record scratches, which always gets a laugh. I was also impressed that I could import songs directly from my Spotify playlists (with a subscription), so I wasn’t stuck with a limited library. The recording feature is a game-changer; I’ve saved several of my practice sessions and sent them to a DJ friend for feedback.

User Experience

The first time I successfully transitioned from a hip-hop track into a house beat without a trainwreck, I actually pumped my fist. The touchscreen faders and EQ knobs are responsive, though there’s a slight learning curve to nudge the pitch perfectly with your finger. I primarily use it on my iPad, and the larger screen makes a huge difference. On my smaller phone, I sometimes hit the wrong cue button by accident. The interface can feel a bit cluttered with all the effects panels, but after a few sessions, I learned where everything was. It’s not a professional Pioneer setup, but for practicing in my bedroom, it feels incredibly authentic.

Pricing

The app is free to download and use with a solid array of features. The catch is the ads, which pop up as banners and occasional full-screen videos between sessions. They can be distracting when you’re in the flow. There’s a one-time premium upgrade that removes all ads and unlocks some extra sound packs and advanced effects like key shifting. For how much I’ve used it, I think the upgrade is worth the few dollars if you’re serious about learning, but the free version is more than enough to see if DJing is for you.

Updates & Support

I’ve had the app for about six months, and I’ve seen two meaningful updates. One added that Spotify integration I mentioned, and the other fixed a bug where my mixes would sometimes crackle on export. The developer, iMediaStar, seems active. I emailed them once with a question about export formats and got a helpful, clear reply within two days, which is better support than I get from some paid apps.

Security & Privacy

I downloaded it directly from the official Google Play Store. The app does require access to your media library to import songs and to storage to save your mixes, which makes sense. The privacy policy is fairly standard—it collects some usage data for analytics and serves personalized ads. I didn’t notice any overly intrusive permission requests. If you buy the premium version, the ads and associated tracking go away.
