First Impression

Honestly, I downloaded this as a last resort. My old rhythm game got bloated with ads and started crashing. I saw Dancing Cats 2 and my first thought was, “Great, another silly cash grab.” The first song was a mess of mistimed taps, and the ads after every couple of rounds had me ready to delete it. But the cats were so stupidly charming, doing their little disco moves, that I gave it one more shot. By the third song, the rhythm clicked, and I found myself actually smiling during my Tuesday morning bus ride. It was weirdly satisfying.

What It Does Well

For a free game, the amount of stuff you get is pretty wild. I’ve unlocked four different cats and a bunch of outfits just by playing the daily challenges and earning coins normally. The music selection is way better than it has any right to be—I went from tapping to a funky bassline to a surprisingly intense classical piece where my cat did a dramatic ballet. That moment alone sold me. The game runs perfectly smooth on my Pixel 7, which is huge for timing. I also love that it works completely offline; it’s my go-to for killing time in waiting rooms or on flights when I don’t have Wi-Fi.

Where It Falls Short

The ads are the obvious trade-off. They pop up after every few songs, and sometimes the button to watch an ad for extra coins is right where your thumb goes to start the next track. It’s annoying. Also, while you can earn a lot for free, the grind gets real if you want the rarest costumes. Some of my friends caved and bought coin packs. The song library is decent, but after a few months, I’ve played the free tracks a lot. You hope the monthly updates add more permanent songs, not just limited-time events.

Is It Worth the Price?

Absolutely, because the price is zero. As someone who refuses to pay for apps unless they prove their worth, this one has. I haven’t spent a single cent and I’ve had months of fun. You get a full, working rhythm game with a ton of personality and no sneaky “pay to win” mechanics blocking the core gameplay. The ads are the price, and for the entertainment I’ve gotten, it’s a fair deal. It’s a great replacement for the app that let me down.

Developer & Support

I haven’t had any bugs, so I’ve never needed to contact Cobby Labs directly. Judging by the Play Store reviews, they seem pretty responsive to crash reports. What I do notice is they drop updates regularly, like a Halloween event with pumpkin costumes for the cats. It shows they’re not just letting the app rot. That monthly trickle of new stuff, even if some is temporary, makes it feel like the game is still alive, which is more than I can say for a lot of free apps.

Privacy & Safety

The app asks for pretty basic permissions. It wanted access to my media files, which I denied, and it still works fine—it just can’t save screenshots or videos directly to my gallery, which I don’t need. I checked its Data Safety section on the Play Store, and it says it doesn’t share your data with third parties for marketing. That’s a big plus for me. It feels like a simple, contained game that isn’t trying to suck up my personal info, which is refreshing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play Dancing Cats 2 without an internet connection?

Yes, the game works completely offline once downloaded. This makes it a great choice for killing time on flights or in waiting rooms when Wi-Fi isn't available.

How do I unlock new cats and outfits without spending money?

You can unlock cats and outfits by playing daily challenges and earning coins normally. The game offers a generous amount of free content through regular gameplay, so you don't need to spend a cent.

Why do I keep seeing ads after every few songs, and how can I reduce them?

Ads appear after every few songs as a trade-off for the free game. Unfortunately, there's no built-in way to remove them without paying, but you can avoid accidentally triggering ad buttons by being careful where you tap when starting a new track.

The rhythm feels off in the first song—is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

This is common when you first start; the timing can feel mistapped initially. Give it a few songs—once the rhythm clicks, usually by the third track, the gameplay becomes smooth and satisfying.

How does Dancing Cats 2 compare to other free rhythm games like Piano Tiles?

Dancing Cats 2 offers a wider variety of music genres and charming cat animations, plus it works offline. Unlike Piano Tiles, it has less intrusive ads and a more generous free-to-play model, though both games require grinding for rare items.
