First Impression
I saw people talking about this app online and thought, why not give it a try? I’ve been a Citi customer for years, so I downloaded it to my iPhone 14. Right off the bat, it felt overwhelming. The screen was packed with boxes, numbers, and offers. My grandson could probably figure it out in two minutes, but for me, it was just a lot of noise. I just wanted to see my checking account balance and maybe pay a bill, but I had to poke around to find the simple stuff. It didn’t feel inviting at all.
What It Does Well
Once you find what you’re looking for, a couple of things work nicely. I love that I can deposit a check without leaving the house. Last Saturday, I got a birthday check from my sister. I just opened the app, tapped a few buttons, took pictures of the front and back with my phone’s camera, and it was done. The money showed up the next Monday. That’s a real convenience. Also, logging in with my face is very quick. I don’t have to remember another complicated password, which is a relief.
Where It Falls Short
My biggest gripe is how cluttered and confusing the whole thing is. Nothing is where I think it should be. Last week, I needed to download my monthly statement to send to my accountant. I tapped on my account, but the statement wasn’t there. I poked around in “Services,” then “Account Services,” and finally found it hidden under something called “Document Center.” I wasted a good ten minutes just hunting. The screen is always showing me credit card offers or news articles when all I want is my banking. It feels like they’re trying to sell me things instead of helping me bank.
Is It Worth the Price?
Well, it’s free, so you aren’t out any money. For the basic task of depositing a check from your couch, it’s worth having on your phone. But “free” doesn’t mean it’s good. You pay with your time and frustration trying to navigate it. If you only need to do one simple thing and you know exactly where to tap, it’s fine. For anything more, be prepared to feel a bit lost. The convenience is there, but it’s buried under a lot of nonsense.
Developer & Support
This is what really dropped my rating. I had an issue where a transfer I set up didn’t look right. I used the “Message Center” in the app to ask about it. The response I got two days later was a generic paragraph that didn’t even answer my specific question. It felt like they sent a form letter. I had to write back and wait another day for a slightly clearer, but still vague, reply. For a bank, that’s just not good enough. If my money is involved, I need clear support, not slow, copy-pasted answers. It left me feeling completely on my own.
Privacy & Safety
It’s a bank app, so I have to trust it’s secure. Using my face to log in does make me feel better that no one else can get in if I lose my phone. I also get a text alert for every transaction, which is comforting. I noticed a small charge I didn’t recognize last Tuesday afternoon, and I was able to look into it right away. So, on the safety front, it seems okay. I just wish the people behind it were as responsive as the alert system.
How do I deposit a check using the Citi Mobile app?
Open the app, tap the deposit option, and follow the prompts to take pictures of the front and back of your endorsed check. The funds usually appear in your account by the next business day.
Can I log in without a password?
Yes, you can set up face recognition login on your iPhone, which is quick and means you don't have to remember another complicated password. It also adds an extra layer of security.
Why can't I find my monthly statement in the app?
Statements aren't listed directly under your account. Instead, go to 'Services,' then 'Account Services,' and look for 'Document Center'—that's where all your statements are stored.
I got a slow, generic reply from support. What should I do?
If the in-app Message Center response doesn't answer your question, reply back with more detail or call Citi's customer service line directly. For urgent issues, a phone call usually gets you a clearer answer faster.
How does Citi Mobile compare to Chase Mobile?
Both apps let you deposit checks and pay bills, but Chase's app is often praised for its cleaner, more intuitive layout. Citi Mobile tends to feel cluttered with offers, making it harder to find basic banking features quickly.
