Overview of Amazing Fishing
Amazing Fishing is a free fishing companion app that aims to help users find nearby fishing spots, log catches, and connect with a community of anglers. While the concept has merit, the execution falls short in several key areas, resulting in an experience that many users may find frustrating rather than helpful.
Features Worth Noting
The app includes a basic fishing logbook that allows users to take photos of their catch and add notes—a feature that could appeal to families or casual anglers. There is also a community section where users can share tips, and some posts from local anglers appear genuinely informative. The weather feature exists, though it is slow to update and less reliable than standard weather apps.
What Needs Work
The app’s primary shortcomings lie in its performance and user experience. The map feature, which is central to the app’s purpose, often displays outdated or inaccurate location data, with pins placed far from actual fishing spots. The interface can be sluggish, with occasional freezing or crashes when attempting basic tasks like saving a location or opening the logbook. Additionally, the app is heavily ad-supported, with frequent interruptions from banner ads, full-screen video ads, and pop-ups that can make navigation feel cluttered and less suitable for a family setting.
Pricing
The app is free to download, with revenue generated through advertising. A “Pro” version is mentioned in the settings, which promises an ad-free experience. However, given the app’s current stability and functionality issues, the value proposition of paying for an upgrade is questionable. The free version’s heavy ad load may feel intrusive to users seeking a smooth, uninterrupted experience.
Developer Notes
Customer support response times appear to be slow, with users reporting delays of several days when submitting issues through the in-app contact form. This may be a consideration for those who rely on timely assistance.
