About Daily Weather: Forecast & Alerts
I downloaded Daily Weather on a whim after my old weather app started bombarding me with ads. I needed something simple, accurate, and free. As someone who walks their dog rain or shine, I rely on a good forecast. This app, developed by Fabiola Rodriguez Castillo, has been a pleasant surprise. It doesn’t try to be a social network or a news hub—it just focuses on giving me the weather info I need without the fluff.
Features & Highlights
The feature set here is solid for a free app. The real-time radar map is my favorite part. I can actually watch a storm front move toward my neighborhood, which helped me decide to bring my patio cushions in just in time last Tuesday. The 7-day forecastsevere weather alerts; it pinged me about a high wind warning last week that my local news hadn’t even mentioned yet. I don’t use the air quality index daily, but I checked it during a hazy day and found it useful. The widgets are a nice touch—I have a small one on my home screen that just shows the current temp and condition, which is all I need at a glance.
User Experience
Opening the app is straightforward. It loads with my location’s current conditions right at the top: temperature, a “feels like” reading, humidity, and wind speed. I remember one morning I was rushing to get to an outdoor brunch. A quick look told me it was 65°F but felt like 60° with the wind chill—info that saved me from underdressing. Swiping left takes me to the hourly forecast, and swiping right brings up the full 7-day outlook. The menu is simple, with tabs for the radar, alerts, and settings. It’s not the most stunning app visually, but it’s functional and everything is where you expect it to be. I never have to hunt for a setting.
Pricing
The app is completely free to download and use with no hidden subscriptions, which is fantastic. You get the core features—forecasts, radar, basic alerts, and widgets—without paying a cent. There are banner ads at the bottom of the screen, but they’re static and not video ads, so they’re not intrusive. I haven’t felt pressured to pay to remove them. For a free weather app, it offers tremendous value. If you need hyper-local, minute-by-minute precipitation forecasts, you might need a premium service, but for 99% of daily needs, this free version is more than enough.
Updates & Support
Looking at the update history in the app store, the developer pushes out small updates every month or two, usually for bug fixes or minor improvements. I haven’t encountered any major bugs that required support, so I can’t speak to their response time. The app itself feels stable and hasn’t crashed on me. It’s clearly being maintained, which is more than I can say for some abandoned free apps out there.
Security & Privacy
I downloaded it directly from the Google Play Store. The app requires location permissions to give you automatic local forecasts, which is standard. In its privacy policy, it states that it collects location data for functionality and may use it for personalized ads. You can choose to enter a location manually instead. The ads appear to be generic and I haven’t noticed creepy, specific ad targeting based on my weather searches. For a free app, its data practices seem pretty transparent and in line with what you’d expect.
