About Workday

I’ve been using the Workday mobile app for about a year now to handle all my HR stuff. My company switched to it for payroll and time-off requests, and honestly, I was skeptical at first. I figured the mobile version would be a stripped-down afterthought, but it’s become my go-to for quick tasks I don’t want to fire up my laptop for. It’s the main way I interact with Workday now, especially since I’m not always at my desk.

Features & Highlights

The core features are what keep me opening the app. Submitting a time-off request is a breeze—I can do it while waiting for my coffee. I use the pay statements feature every pay period; it’s great to get a notification and immediately see my stub without logging into the clunky desktop portal. The expense tracking is another winner. Last month, I snapped photos of my taxi receipts right in the app and submitted my report from the airport lounge.

What surprised me were the little things. The company directory is searchable and has photos, so I can finally put a face to the name of that colleague in another department I need to message. I also get push alerts for important deadlines, like benefits enrollment, which has saved me from missing a cutoff more than once.

User Experience

Let me paint a real picture: It’s a Friday afternoon, and I realize I forgot to submit my timesheet. Panic sets in. I pull out my phone, open Workday, and I’m looking at my dashboard in two taps. I punch in my hours and hit submit before my bus even arrives. That’s the UX win here—it gets me out of jams.

The design is clean and the menu makes sense, but it’s not perfect. On my older Android phone, the app occasionally stutters when loading the org chart, which is image-heavy. The search function is a lifesaver when I’m digging for a specific form or policy document. Overall, it feels designed for actual employee tasks, not just as a checkbox for the IT department.

Pricing

The app itself is free to download, which is standard. Access is completely tied to your company’s subscription to the main Workday platform. So, for me as an employee, there’s no cost. Is it worth it? Absolutely, given that it’s free for end-users and provides genuine utility. If my company pays for Workday, not using the mobile app is like leaving a useful tool in the box.

Updates & Support

I see an update in the Google Play Store every month or two, usually with vague “bug fixes and performance improvements” notes. I have noticed it’s gotten more stable over time. As for support, my experience is limited to my company’s internal IT helpdesk. They handle any login or access issues. For actual app problems, they escalate to Workday. I’ve never had to contact Workday directly, which is probably a good sign that things just work.

Security & Privacy

I downloaded it directly from the Google Play Store, so I’m confident about the source. Since it’s tied to my work account, all the data is what my employer already has in the system—payroll, personal info, etc. The app uses my company’s login (often with two-factor authentication), which feels secure. I’ve never seen an ad or gotten a weird tracking notification. My main privacy concern is the same as with the desktop version: my employer has all this data. The app itself seems like a secure window into that existing system.
