TED
Can I download TED talks to watch offline?
Yes, the TED app allows you to download talks for offline viewing, which is perfect for commutes or areas with poor internet. This is a core free feature, though some users have reported occasional bugs with downloaded videos not playing.
What kind of content is locked behind the TED Membership paywall?
The TED Membership unlocks exclusive podcasts, interview series, and other premium content. The free app provides a large library of classic talks, but the interface prominently highlights these member-only sections.
What should I do if a downloaded talk won't play offline?
First, try re-downloading the talk. If the issue persists, use the 'Send Feedback' form in the app's settings to report the bug to TED's support team, providing details about the specific talk and your device.
Does the TED app have subtitles and are they free?
Yes, the app supports subtitles in multiple languages for free. You can use them to follow talks in other languages or for better comprehension, as the reviewer did with a French talk.
How does the free TED app experience compare to watching TED talks on YouTube?
The TED app offers a curated, ad-free viewing experience with offline downloads, unlike YouTube which may have ads. However, the app more aggressively promotes its paid membership, while YouTube provides all content without upselling within the video player.
