Stepik: online courses
Is Stepik actually free, or is there a hidden subscription?
Yes, Stepik is genuinely free. The review confirms you can access entire courses without paying, though some offer optional paid certificates. The core learning content has no paywalls or gimped features.
Can I use Stepik offline, and how does it work?
Yes, Stepik has a useful offline mode. You can download lessons beforehand, like for a gym locker room, and complete interactive exercises without an internet connection. This is great for learning on the go.
I'm having trouble finding the right course. How can I search better?
The review notes the app's filtering is basic, making it hard to find intermediate or specific courses like SQL. You may need to scroll through many 'Intro' titles, as there's no advanced search filter to easily narrow results by level.
What should I do if a quiz question seems to have a wrong or buggy answer?
You can contact support directly through the app. The reviewer did this when a stats quiz wouldn't accept a correct answer. The support team is available to investigate and fix such technical issues.
How does Stepik compare to other learning apps like Duolingo in terms of user experience?
Stepik focuses on efficiency over gamification. Unlike apps with confetti and animations, Stepik is clean and fast, letting you click 'Next' and continue learning. Its value is in free, in-depth interactive exercises, like coding directly in the app.
