About Pics2Video

As someone who takes way too many photos but never gets around to editing them, I was curious if Pics2Video could actually help. I downloaded it to tackle a specific project: turning about 20 photos from a recent hiking trip into a short video for my family group chat. My first impression was that it looked simple, maybe even a bit basic, but I was ready to see if it could deliver.

Features & Highlights

The app’s main draw is its template library. I found a “Travel Adventure” template that automatically added a peppy soundtrack and zoom transitions, which saved me a ton of time. The AI part seems to kick in here, suggesting which photos might look best with certain effects. I was pleasantly surprised by the music library; it’s not just cheesy stock tunes. I found a decent acoustic track that fit the mountain scenery. The text and sticker tools are straightforward. I added a title card at the start with the trip location and date, which made the final product feel more intentional. The export in HD is a must-have, and it worked perfectly—the video looked crisp when I AirDropped it to my laptop.

User Experience

My real test was on a Tuesday evening when I had about 15 minutes to spare. The process was intuitive: I tapped “Create,” selected my photos from my camera roll, and scrolled through templates. Where I got stuck was on the customization screen. While adjusting clip durations was easy, some of the more stylish transitions and fonts were locked behind a “Pro” watermark. I hit “export” only to be shown a full-screen ad before my video processed. That was a real mood-killer. When the video finally generated, though, I was genuinely happy with it. Seeing my static photos flow together with music created a little moment of nostalgia I wasn’t expecting from a free app.

Pricing

The app is free to download and use, but you’ll see “Pro” watermarks on your videos and encounter ads. A weekly or monthly subscription unlocks all templates, removes watermarks and ads, and gives access to premium effects. For a one-off project, putting up with the watermark might be fine. But if you see yourself making videos regularly—say, for a small business or a hobby—the subscription fee starts to feel necessary, and I’m not fully convinced the Pro features are worth a recurring charge for casual users.

Updates & Support

Looking at the update history in the App Store, the developer, Novabites inc, pushes updates every month or two, mostly bug fixes and “performance improvements.” I didn’t have any crashes, so that seems accurate. I had a question about aspect ratios for Instagram, so I used the in-app support form. I got a generic but helpful reply within 48 hours, which is decent for a free app. They didn’t solve a deeply technical issue, but they pointed me to the right setting.

Security & Privacy

I downloaded Pics2Video directly from the official Apple App Store. Its privacy label on the store page states it may collect “User Content” (your photos/videos) and “Usage Data.” This is expected for an app that needs your photos to function. The policy says data is used for app functionality and isn’t linked to your identity. The ads are definitely present and can be intrusive. I didn’t notice any pushy permission requests beyond accessing my photo library, which I granted only while using the app.
