AlloVoisins
How does the map-based search and distance filter work on AlloVoisins?
You can type in an item you need, like 'hedge trimmer' or 'pressure washer,' and a map shows nearby neighbors who have it listed. A distance filter lets you set a maximum range, so you only see results within a few blocks or a specific radius.
Can I communicate with a lender without sharing my personal phone number?
Yes, the app has built-in messaging that keeps your phone number private until you decide to share it. This helps you stay safe while arranging pickup or asking questions about the item.
What should I do if I can't find a specific item listed nearby?
Try broadening your search radius slightly, or check back in a day or two since new listings appear regularly. You can also post a request for the item you need, and neighbors with that item can offer it to you directly.
Why isn't the map loading or showing results on my iPhone?
First, make sure your app is updated to the latest version and that you've granted location permissions. If the issue persists, try force-closing the app and reopening it, or restart your phone to refresh the GPS connection.
How does AlloVoisins compare to borrowing from a hardware store or rental shop?
AlloVoisins is usually much cheaper—for example, a tile cutter that costs €45 per day at a rental shop can be borrowed from a neighbor for €15 for the whole weekend. You also get the bonus of meeting people nearby who might even show you how to use the tool.
