AlfredCamera Home Security
How does AlfredCamera's motion detection work, and can I set specific zones to avoid false alerts?
Yes, you can set custom motion zones so the camera only triggers in areas you choose, like your front door, while ignoring pets or moving objects elsewhere. The sensitivity can be adjusted, but some users report occasional inconsistency with alerts, especially in windy conditions.
Does the two-way audio feature work well for talking to visitors or pets?
Two-way audio is functional but has a noticeable delay, making conversations feel like using an old walkie-talkie. It's fine for quick check-ins or telling a delivery driver where to leave a package, but not ideal for smooth back-and-forth chatting.
Why does my AlfredCamera app crash or shut down the live feed randomly, and how can I fix it?
Random crashes are common when using older phones as dedicated cameras, like the iPhone XS, often requiring a manual restart. Switching to a newer, more powerful device and using a quality charger can significantly improve stability and reduce battery drain.
I'm getting too many false motion alerts from tree branches or not enough alerts when people walk by—how do I fix this?
Try adjusting the motion sensitivity and setting specific detection zones in the app to ignore areas like trees or bushes. Even after tweaking, some inconsistency may remain, so experiment with different settings to find the best balance for your setup.
How does AlfredCamera compare to a dedicated system like Nest, especially in terms of cost and features?
AlfredCamera is far cheaper since it uses an old phone you already own, with a free plan for basic monitoring and a $9.99/month premium option for 7-day cloud recording. Nest requires buying expensive hardware and a monthly subscription, but offers more reliable motion detection and better two-way audio without delays.
