About Pix Editor: AI Photo Maker

As someone who takes a lot of photos for my blog and Instagram, I’m always on the lookout for a solid, free editor that doesn’t feel cheap. I downloaded Pix Editor on a whim, expecting another clunky app, but it’s actually stuck around on my home screen. I’m not a pro photographer by any means—most of my pics are of my dog, coffee, or weekend hikes—so I need tools that are powerful but don’t require a manual to understand. This app hits that sweet spot for me.

Features & Highlights

The AI one-tap enhance is the star for me. I took a gloomy, overcast photo from a park walk, tapped the magic wand icon, and it genuinely brought out the greens and the sky in a way that looked natural, not overcooked. The background remover is shockingly good for a free tool; I used it to cut out my dog from a messy living room background and plop him onto a beach scene for a silly birthday post. The collage maker has templates that aren’t cheesy, which is rare. I find myself using the “Modern Grid” layouts often for before-and-after editing shots. While the filters are fun, I really appreciate that you can adjust their intensity—the “Vintage Film” look at 30% is perfect for giving photos a subtle warmth.

User Experience

Opening the app feels intuitive. The main screen gives you clear big buttons: “Edit Photo,” “Collage,” and “AI Tools.” I remember the first time I used the eraser for background removal; I braced for a frustrating pixel-by-pixel battle, but the AI traced the outline of my subject pretty accurately. I only had to zoom in and clean up a bit around my hair. The app did crash once when I was applying a complex filter to a very high-res image, but restarting it and trying again worked fine. Exporting is fast, and I love that it asks what quality you want to save in. For Instagram stories, I use the “For Social” option, and it resizes it perfectly so I don’t have to crop.

Pricing

The app is free to download and use, which is fantastic. You get access to all the core features: the AI enhancer, a solid set of filters, the background remover, collage maker, and basic editing tools. There is a premium subscription that unlocks more “premium” filters, removes watermarking on exports, and gives you access to a bigger sticker library. For my needs, the free version is completely sufficient. The watermark is a tiny, transparent logo in the bottom corner that’s barely noticeable. I haven’t felt pressured to upgrade, which I appreciate.

Updates & Support

I’ve had the app for about two months, and I’ve seen one noticeable update that added a few new collage layouts. The developer, Signature EXP, seems active. I had a question about saving formats and used the “Contact Us” form in the app settings. I got a generic but helpful reply within 48 hours, which is decent for a free app. There’s no sprawling community forum, but the in-app FAQ covers the common basics.

Security & Privacy

I downloaded Pix Editor directly from the Google Play Store. Its privacy policy states that photos are processed on-device for basic edits but may be uploaded to servers for the more advanced AI tasks (like background removal). They say they don’t store your images permanently. The app does show banner ads at the bottom of the screen, which can be a little distracting but aren’t intrusive video ads. Tapping the “X” closes them easily. I haven’t noticed any shady permission requests—it just asks for access to your photos/media, which is obviously necessary for a photo editor.
