About Epson iPrint

As someone who works from home and is constantly trying to declutter, I was getting tired of booting up my laptop just to print a boarding pass or scan a receipt. I downloaded Epson iPrint for my iPhone to see if it could simplify my life, and I’ve been using it with my Epson EcoTank for about six months now. It’s essentially a remote control for my printer, letting me handle everything from my couch.

Features & Highlights

The core promise is wireless printing, and it delivers. I use it most often to print PDFs I receive via email—contracts, instruction manuals, you name it. I just open the file in my mail app, hit share, and select Epson iPrint. The ability to print directly from my Google Drive and Dropbox is a game-changer for work documents. Instead of downloading a file to my phone first, I can find it in the cloud and send it to the printer in two taps. The scanning feature is the unsung hero, though. I’ve used my phone’s camera to scan old family photos, warranty paperwork, and even pages from a library book I needed notes from. The app automatically crops and enhances the image, and I can save it straight to my phone or send it to my Drive folder. I also appreciate the custom settings; when I’m printing a draft document, I switch to grayscale and eco-mode right in the app to save ink.

User Experience

My first setup was surprisingly painless. I opened the app, it found my EcoTank on the Wi-Fi network, and we were ready to go in under a minute. The interface is clean and not cluttered with unnecessary options. A real “aha” moment was when I was running late for a doctor’s appointment and realized I needed the new patient forms. I pulled them up on my phone’s browser, used the “Web Page Print” feature in the app, and had them in hand before I walked out the door. Another time, I needed to send a signed copy of a lease back to my landlord. I signed the paper copy, scanned it with iPrint, and emailed the PDF directly from the app—all while standing at my kitchen counter. It’s these little moments where it saves a huge amount of hassle. I will say, the one time my Wi-Fi was acting up, the app struggled to connect, reminding me this convenience is entirely network-dependent.

Pricing

The app is completely free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases, subscription tiers, or premium features locked behind a paywall. For me, this is a huge point in its favor. Considering it unlocks the full functionality of my (sometimes expensive) Epson printer from my mobile device, it feels like an essential, value-added piece of software. It’s absolutely worth the download if you own a compatible Epson printer.

Updates & Support

I have automatic updates turned on, and I see the app get minor updates every couple of months, usually for stability or to support new printer models. I’ve never had a critical bug. I did have to look for help once when I changed my home Wi-Fi password and my printer dropped off the network. The in-app help section had clear instructions for reconnecting, and I found a more detailed troubleshooting guide on Epson’s official website that solved my problem in about five minutes. It feels well-supported by the developer.

Security & Privacy

I downloaded the app directly from the official Apple App Store. In terms of privacy, the app needs access to your photos and files to print them, and to your camera to scan—which makes complete sense for its function. According to Epson’s privacy policy, the app may collect diagnostic data to improve performance, but my print jobs and scanned document content aren’t stored on their servers. I’ve never seen any third-party ads within the app, which is a relief and adds to the clean, professional feel. I feel confident using it for personal documents.
